Over the next few days, Avneet and Siddharth try to navigate their new understanding. Jannat: Oh my God. Avneet, are you serious? You and Professor Siddharth?
Avneet bites her lip, nodding slowly. She can see the concern on Jannat's face, and it only makes her feel worse.
Jannat: (lowering her voice) Do you realize how dangerous that is? If people find out for real-if the administration gets involved-it could ruin both of you.
Avneet looks away, her throat tightening. She knows Jannat's right. Every day that passes feels like walking on a tightrope, and one wrong move could send everything crashing down.
Avneet: (softly) I know. But I can't just walk away from him.
Jannat sighs, leaning back in her chair.
Jannat: I get it. I've seen the way he looks at you. But you need to be careful, Avneet. Really careful.
Avneet nods, feeling the weight of her friend's words. She knows she can't let her guard down-not when the rumors are still swirling, and not when her feelings for Siddharth are growing stronger by the day.
