A few days later, Avneet is walking through the campus courtyard, lost in thought. She’s been trying to focus on her studies, but her mind keeps drifting back to Siddharth. She can’t help but replay their conversation in her head, the weight of his admission lingering in her chest.
Just as she’s about to head into the library, she bumps into Jannat, who immediately notices her distracted state.
Jannat: (teasing) Well, well, look who’s off in her own little world again.
Avneet gives her a half-hearted smile, not in the mood for teasing today.
Avneet: Hey, Jannat. Sorry, I’ve just been... thinking.
Jannat narrows her eyes, her curiosity piqued.
Jannat: Thinking, huh? About a certain professor, maybe?
Avneet freezes, feeling her face heat up. She’s never mentioned her feelings to Jannat, but her friend has always been perceptive.
Avneet: (defensive) It’s not like that.
Jannat crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow.
Jannat: Oh really? Because the way you’re blushing right now says otherwise.
Avneet sighs, knowing she won’t be able to get out of this one. She glances around, making sure no one else is within earshot before lowering her voice.
Avneet: (reluctantly) Okay, fine. Maybe it is like that. But it’s complicated, okay?
Jannat’s eyes widen, a grin spreading across her face.
Jannat: I knew it! I knew there was something going on between you two!
Avneet groans, rubbing her temples.
Avneet: There’s not really anything ‘going on.’ It’s just... we admitted we have feelings for each other, but it’s not that simple.
