Author's POV

Harry sat at the kitchen table, his notebook open in front of him, the pages filled with scribbled lyrics and crossed-out lines. He tapped the end of his pen against his lips, staring at the last verse he had just written. The words seemed to blur together as his thoughts drifted to Ellie, her laughter still echoing in the air from their earlier dance.

Sunflower, Vol. 6 was finally finished. It was a light, happy song—playful, just like the moments he shared with Ellie every day. As he read through the lyrics, he realized something. This wasn’t just a song anymore. These words, these feelings, they weren’t just about a sunflower or some abstract idea of happiness. It was about her. It was always about her.

Every line, every note, every melody—it all came back to Ellie.

He leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair as the realization settled in. He had written this song with her in mind. Every time he had been stuck on a line or couldn’t find the right melody, it was thinking about her smile, her voice, her presence that brought him back to the page. And now, looking at the finished song, he couldn’t deny it anymore.

He was falling for her. Hard.

But that scared him a little. Things between them had been so good—so peaceful. They had this natural rhythm together, an ease that felt like they had known each other for years, not just a few months. It had only been three months since he’d moved into the house, but in that time, Ellie had become such a constant presence in his life that he couldn’t imagine it without her. The idea of rushing into anything, of possibly ruining what they had, terrified him.

He didn’t want to mess this up.

He stared down at the notebook, the words staring back at him like they were taunting him. The song was done, but his feelings weren’t. They were just beginning, and as much as he wanted to tell Ellie how he felt, he knew he had to be careful. This wasn’t something he could rush. He wanted it to be right. He wanted them to be right.

The truth was, he didn’t just want her now. He wanted her every day, over and over again. The thought of waking up every morning with Ellie by his side, laughing together, creating together—it was a future he didn’t know he could want until now. He wanted more of this, more of her. And the idea of it lasting a lifetime? That sounded like everything he had been missing.

But how did he say that without scaring her away?

He sighed and closed the notebook, pushing it to the side as he stood up. The kitchen was quiet now, the only sound the faint hum of the refrigerator. Ellie had gone upstairs to shower, leaving him alone with his thoughts and the weight of everything he wanted to say.

He wandered over to the window, looking out at the backyard. The sun was starting to set, casting a soft golden light across the sky. It reminded him of how Ellie had looked earlier, standing in the kitchen, her face glowing as she laughed at one of his jokes. There was something about her, something so vibrant and alive, like she carried sunshine with her wherever she went.

Harry smiled to himself, his heart swelling with affection. He wanted to tell her how he felt, but he also didn’t want to rush things. They had something special, something he wasn’t willing to jeopardize by moving too fast. But at the same time, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he needed to say something. He needed to let her know, in some way, that she was more to him than just a friend or a housemate.

He heard the soft sound of footsteps behind him and turned to see Ellie standing at the doorway. Her hair was damp from the shower, and she was wrapped in an oversized hoodie that looked way too big for her. She smiled at him, her eyes sparkling with that warmth that made his chest tighten every time he saw it.

“Hey,” she said, walking over to him. “What’s on your mind?”

Harry swallowed, suddenly feeling a little nervous. He scratched the back of his neck, trying to find the right words. “I, uh... I finished the song.”

Ellie’s face lit up. “You did? That’s amazing! Can I hear it?”

He hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, sure. But first, I need to tell you something.”

Ellie raised an eyebrow, her smile softening as she waited for him to continue.

“I... I’ve been thinking a lot lately. About everything. About us.” He glanced down at his hands, then back at her. “These past few months have been... I don’t even know how to describe it. They’ve been the best months I’ve had in a long time.”

Ellie’s smile softened even more, and she stepped a little closer. “I feel the same way.”

Harry felt his heart skip a beat at her words. He took a deep breath, deciding to take the plunge. “I wrote this song because... well, because of you. I didn’t realize it at first, but everything in this song—it’s all you. Every line, every note, it’s about how I feel when I’m with you.”

Ellie’s eyes widened slightly, her lips parting in surprise. “Harry…”

“I’m not saying this to rush anything,” he added quickly. “I just... I needed to tell you. I care about you, Ellie. A lot. And I don’t want this to end. I want more of it. More of you.”

For a moment, there was silence. Then Ellie smiled, that same radiant smile that made everything else fade away. She reached out, taking his hand in hers.

“I want more of it too, Harry,” she said softly. “More of this. More of us.”

Harry’s chest filled with warmth, and he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. He smiled back at her, feeling a sense of peace settle over him. This was right. This was what he wanted.

He didn’t know what the future held, but he knew one thing for sure: he wanted her. Every day, again and again, for as long as he could have her.

And that was enough for now.
