**Four Months Later**
It’s early morning in Yunmeng where the sun barely peeks through the clouds, but Jiang Cheng is already awake, pacing in his study.
Suddenly, a messenger rushes in, looking panicked as he says very softly and politely, "Sect Leader Jiang, there’s trouble at the borders of Yunmeng and Yilling. Raiders are attacking from three sides.”
Jiang Cheng is frowning talking, “What? Raiders? How bad is it?”
Messenger says very softly and politely, "They’ve looted homes of our subjects and attacked our army troops. We need to respond immediately.”
Jiang Cheng’s eyes narrow, his expression turning serious so he knows what he has to do.
Jiang Cheng says very softly and politely, "Get Wei Wuxian and Xue Yang. We need them to lead our troops towards the borders of Yunmeng and Yilling.”
Wei Wuxian and Xue Yang arrive, looking relaxed, as if they just woke up from a nap.
Wei Wuxian is grinning talking, “What’s the fuss? Did someone lose a game?”
Jiang Cheng is frustrated talking, “This is serious. We’re under attack. I need you two to take charge of the troops at the border.”
Xue Yang is smirking talking, “Sounds fun. Can I bring my firecrackers? Looks like the miscreants around the border will have to be taught a good lesson.”
Jiang Cheng says very softly and politely, "No. Focus. We need to protect our people and our soldiers first.”
As they prepare, Lan Wangji is nearby, quietly listening even he doesn’t like the tension in the air but when he hears Wei Wuxian will go to the border, his heart races.
Lan Wangji is interrupting talking, “Wei Wuxian. You can’t go alone.”
Wei Wuxian is playfully talking, “Why not? I’m the commander of Yunmeng forces. It’s my job.”
Lan Wangji says very softly and politely, "But, it’s dangerous.”
Wei Wuxian chuckles, ruffling Lan Wangji’s hair so he says very softly and politely, "Don’t worry, Little Demon. I’ll be fine. I have Xue Yang with me.”
Lan Wangji is pouting talking, “I want to come too. I will help you a lot in your fight and kill all your enemies.”
Wei Wuxian shakes his head, crossing his arms as he says very softly and politely, "You know the rules, Little demon. You’re an omega. You can’t fight alongside alphas in battle.”
Lan Wangji says very softly and politely, "I don’t care about the rules. I want to protect you.”
Wei Wuxian softens a bit but maintains his stance so he says very softly and politely, "You have to stay safe. Please this is not the time to be stubborn because our people need us the most at this time and I cannot waste time because of your stubbornness.”
Lan Wangji’s eyes well up with tears, and he takes a step back but in a fit of frustration, Wei Wuxian gently pushes Lan Wangji towards his room.
Wei Wuxian says very softly and politely, "Stay here, alright? Just until I’m back.”
Lan Wangji tries to protest, but Wei Wuxian shuts the door, locking it so omega stares at the door, feeling crushed.
