I'm still worried about Ophelia, but I'm worried if I bring her panic attack up, she'll shut me down. It doesn't matter if we're fast friends. Some lines you have to be aware of.
We're on our way into school right now, and she seems to be happier. Her bubbly sunshine self is back. But the look in her eyes... The panic from earlier hasn't cleared away. It has made her eyes look haunted.
I tighten my hold on her hand, and she looks up at me and smiles. What a perfect girl.
We headed to the office to get a pass since she was "sick" yesterday. Which was bullshit, but they don't need to know that. Once we got the small orange slip of paper, we made our way to our first period of the day. As we enter the classroom and take our seats next to each other, Trevor comes up to us. He parks himself right in front of Sunshine's desk.
She looks up at him, confused.
He smirks at her, "Ophelia, right? I'm Trevor. Listen, I'm sorry I was an asshole and broke your inhaler..." he apologizes, but it's anything BUT genuine. The asshole is smirking. And if he doesn't get to the point, I'm going to have some new scars on my knuckles by the end of this period. "...but you're really fine, and I was wondering if you wanna... you know?" He's asking her out? After he broke her fucking inhaler.
She smiles, and I just know my face is painted with disbelief. But then she does something I did not expect. "Let me get back to you in a second," she says, but it sounds like she's about to laugh. She turns to look at me and shields her face with her hand all while he's still standing there confused. She starts bursting out laughing, and soon he gets angry. My lips are starting to tip up seeing her looking at me and laughing. She takes a deep breath, takes down her hand, even though she has an amused expression on, and says,"Listen, I'm sure there are-" she giggles a bit. "I-I'm sure there are other girls. I am flattered-" she lets a small giggle slip again. "But I must politely decline."
She could barely control herself by the time he stormed off, seething. Then she bursts into laughter again. Now, that really makes me smile. For some reason this girl is making me smile way too much. I used to never smile.
"Was that mean?" she asks me, but I knew she was being sarcastic. She smiles at me, and I am just so taken back by her beauty.
"Never," I answer, and she dissolves into giggles again, but that turns into a coughing fit.
Shit. I rummage around in her bag until I find her inhaler. I hold it out to her, and she quickly takes it, thanking me. Her eyes look at me so innocently. One so blue and bright. The other is a light honey brown. So pretty.
The teacher walks into the room, and of course, it's time for another lovely lesson. I internally roll my eyes.

The day goes by quick, and thank fucking god it does. I couldn't wait to get out of there and spend some time with Phee.
I was waiting for her against the railing out in the school parking lot. Zach and Mark were talking about the football game we're playing tomorrow night. I should really invite Ophelia to it. For some weird reason, I want her to watch me play.
Ophelia and Marcie come walking out of the double doors and immediately spot us.
I notice Marcie looks angry. Ophelia is covering her mouth giggling.
She's so beautiful. I need her. I don't know what's wrong with me because I can't seem to keep my hands to myself when she's around. They have a mind of their own. My arm wraps around her waist when she stops in front of me. She's laughing still.
Marcie, however, is on a rampage, stomping over to Mark.
"You asshole!" she accuses, jabbing her finger into his chest. His expression is one of amusement as he holds up his hands defensively.
"Now what did I do?" He looks as though he already knows what he did.
She narrows her eyes at him. "You asked Mr. Peters to put us together for the science project! You knew I wanted to do that with Vanessa!" She slaps him upside the head.
"Oww! You're smart, and we're like bestfriends-" He started running. She was going after him, and there was no stopping the beast. Zach and Ophelia are dying of laughter.
We watch the chaos ensue for a bit, and then I start to drag Phee to my car.

"Okay, are you ready for this?" I ask her, my hands covering her eyes posing as a blindfold. She nods eagerly. I drop my hands.
I watch her face intensely for her reaction. Her face lights up.
"A motorcycle?!" she exclaims, and the joy on her face is contagious. "I've never been on one!"
I smile and cup her face turning it to me. I slide the helmet on her head and buckle it. She giggles. I grab her hand and walk her to the bike and slide my helmet on.
"Come here. Let me put a jacket on you, silly," I motion for her to come over. She pads closer and I pull my leather jacket on her.
I swing my leg over the bike and climb on. I hold my hand out for her. She takes it, and I guide her over the bike.
"Hold on tight," I wrap her arms around my torso and start the bike. "Are you scared?"
"No," she replies simply. And I love how confident she is.
I rev the engine and then we're riding. I start to gradually gain speed, and the faster we go, the tighter she holds on.
I slow down when we hit traffic and turn my head back to her. "Like it?" I ask, grinning.
"Love it!" she squeals. I chuckle softly, happy to see her enjoying herself.
Traffic speeds up, and eventually we're on a back road. Her hands start to slip away from me and panic spikes my chest, but when I look through the mirrors, she's standing with her arms out. Her legs are tucked into the crook of my arms, so she doesn't fall. I put my hand on her hip, so she doesn't lose balance as I drive.
For the first time in years, I've met a girl who I care for. I feel at peace with this girl. For the first time since my mom died, I realize, it may just be okay.
