Even if Y/N was aware that she had probably ensured her death by Jennie's hands by now, she was still glad that she had made that decision.
Because it took Jennie not even a day to act.
It was the middle of the night when the enemy crew was busy somewhere else, probably eating or sleeping. Y/N's double had kissed Y/N goodnight already, promising to decide whether or not to leave some lasting scars on her by tomorrow.
And Jennie never waited until tomorrow.
Y/N had no idea how she did it, but somewhen around midnight she looked up from the bloodied floor she was laying on, and her captain was standing in the open door of her cell, looking like a nightmare come to life.
It was impossible to know how angry Jennie was, sweat and dried blood obscuring her expression but her steps were powerful and carried the same fierceness Y/N knew from the woman as she came closer.
Y/N actually rolled around a bit more awake, her body immediately keenly aware of the threat the other woman was radiating. Y/N knew she was not really hurt. And now that her brain was distracted, it also stopped sending hurt signals to her body.
"Jennie." Y/N whispered quietly, not wanting to alarm the clones.
Jennie crouched down next to her fisting one hand into Y/N's hair to roughly pull her head up. Y/N froze for a second, actually not aware if this was the right one, but the look in the woman's eyes was pure fire, not icy coldness like her clone' ones were.
"Repeat it."
Helpless, Y/N found Jennie's eyes, searching and then freezing when she finally knew.
She did wake up Jennie indeed, but she also was going to lose her life for this. So she took this last chance to speak, babbling out everything she wanted the other woman to know.
"I lied to you. I am no royalty. I'm sorry about this. If you need to kill me, then-"
"Y/N."
Y/N's lips shut, worriedly searching Jennie's eyes.
"Ye be no royalty for ye be a pirate. An eye for an eye, matey. I will get ye out of here."
With that, Jennie stepped away again, starting to put out the many lanterns illuminating the corridor. A weak call was heard from Dahyun's cell further down the hall.
Y/N was laying astonished for another second, but then she managed to get up, weakly stumbling after Jennie. She was malnourished, that was for sure. But she would be able to help.
"What is your plan?" She asked the captain.
"Shadows are where light is. We will use the help of darkness."
Y/N's brain took uncomfortably long to understand those words but when she finally did, realisation dawned upon her much too quickly.
The missing shadows. They had to be their missing shadows. That part of their souls they lost? Those. Of course then. Y/N only ever saw those clones when there was light.
"There's not too much time. We will flee to a friend of mine living close by. Hopefully, we can put enough distance between us and them." Jennie wrenched open the door to Minji's cell, hauling the woman out.
The look in Minji's widened eyes was haunted, her gaze continually wavering and skittering around. Y/N gently pulled Minji close to her side, assuring both of them that this was by no means real and that Minji had to concentrate for now.
Y/N also did. She could worry about Jennie killing her later.
Also, why did Jennie call me a pirate? She could not have impossibly forgiven me this easily, right?
