Lucas pov♤

As I stepped out of Luna’s mansion, the cool evening air brushed against my skin, and a smile tugged at the corners of my lips, almost involuntarily. The memory of her teasing bite lingered in my mind, igniting a mix of irritation and something else a thrill that made my heart race.

“Damn, Lucas,” I muttered under my breath, shaking my head at my own foolishness. “She bit you, and you just repaid it. That’s it. Nothing more.” My thoughts spiraled, battling between logic and the undeniable chemistry that crackled between us.

I could feel the weight of the rivalry hanging over me; Luna was the daughter of our family's fiercest opponent. The thought alone should have made her off-limits, a forbidden fruit I shouldn’t even entertain. Yet, here I was, lost in a whirl of emotions.

With each step towards my car, the gravel crunched beneath my feet, grounding me in reality. I took a deep breath, trying to shake her from my mind, but her voice echoed, vivid and intoxicating. “Why can’t you just forget her?” I chided myself, running a hand through my hair in frustration.

As I reached my car, I paused for a moment, glancing back at the mansion illuminated against the twilight. The shadows cast by the trees seemed to dance, and I couldn’t help but wonder if she was watching me from a window.

The thought sent a jolt through me, mixing dread and longing, and I quickly turned away, determined to push her out of my thoughts as I climbed into the driver’s seat, the engine purring to life.

As I sped down the road, my heart raced when I noticed several black cars in my rearview mirror, their sleek bodies closing in like predators on the hunt. “Shit,” I muttered, adrenaline flooding my veins as I slammed my foot down on the gas, the engine roaring in response. The tires screeched against the pavement, but no matter how fast I drove, the cars behind me seemed relentless, their headlights piercing through the dimming light of the evening.

Panic surged as I spotted an alleyway to my right, a narrow escape route that led into a crowded market. I jerked the steering wheel, veering off the main road and into the maze of stalls and vendors.

The sudden turn sent my heart lurching, and I felt the weight of desperation hanging heavy in the air. “This is crazy,” I thought, gripping the steering wheel as I navigated through the throngs of people.

The market was alive with the vibrant chaos of evening shoppers. The sounds of chatter, laughter, and the sizzling of street food filled the air, but it all faded to a dull roar as I focused on weaving through the crowd. “Oh no,” I breathed, horror rising in my throat as I watched families and couples dart toward the sides, eyes wide with fear as they realized the danger of my speeding car.

I maneuvered past fruit stalls overflowing with ripe oranges and bananas, the scent of spices and grilled meats enveloping me, but the sight of frightened faces only fueled my anxiety.

Every turn was a gamble; I had to be careful not to hit anyone, yet I could feel the black cars hot on my tail, determined and unforgiving. I glanced back, my pulse pounding in my ears, and saw their menacing shapes weaving through the market, relentless and unyielding.

As I dodged another group of startled shoppers, I gritted my teeth, knowing I had to think fast. My mind raced, plotting a way out of this chaos while my instincts screamed at me to keep moving.
