Camila's POV
I crossed the street, leaving this residence. I decided to stop at the small coffee shop by the corner to warm up myself. I parked my car nearby before I got into the coffee shop. The coffee shop was not busy on Thursday afternoon, so I got my coffee and my sandwich fast. I missed my lunchtime. So, I decided to grab a sandwich instead of a proper meal as usual. I sat by the corner, enjoying my break and my food. I looked out of the window and took a sip of my coffee. I saw two men looking inside the cafe. I slightly thought they were following me. Then, I ignored them since they did not stay long.
Lauren crossed my mind when I peacefully enjoyed my food. I took my phone out of my bag. I had kept it silent when I was working. I saw messages and missed calls from Lauren. I checked the messages. She asked me to call her back as soon as possible. I delayed responding to her since she wrote nothing urgent in the messages. I guessed she just missed me. She did not like it when I did not answer her calls, and it was the longest time I missed her messages and calls today because I was busy. I sent a short message, telling her I would call her back in thirty minutes. I decided to call her back after I finished my meal and returned to my apartment.
It was not that I did not miss her. I missed her for sure. It had been more than a week since she was away. It meant it was almost two weeks since I met, kissed, and hugged her. I distracted myself by working and doing my stuff. She would call me in the late afternoon, which was evening time for her. We talked to each other through the video call. Sometimes, we spent around an hour on the call. I missed her, but I still could handle it. It was not that bad, to stay away from each other for a while. So, we knew how much we missed each other.
Returning to my apartment, I refreshed myself first and changed my clothes. I settled in my bed comfortably and rested a while before I called Lauren. I opened my eyes, and my room was dark. I realized I had fallen asleep after an exhausting day. Then, I realized I had not called Lauren back. I grabbed my phone next to me. I faced palmed after knowing I had missed all the messages and calls from Lauren again. It was midnight for her. She must be asleep by now. So, I sent her a message only, telling her sorry I missed her calls and would call her back first thing in the morning.
.
I woke up around six to call Lauren. She should have her lunch by this time. I went to the bathroom to use the toilet and have a quick refresh before I settled back in my bed. I took my phone from the nightstand and sent her a message, asking if I could call her by now. She always called me instead of me calling her, even though she had covered my cell phone bill. Sitting in the bed, holding my phone, I was waiting for her reply. I did not want to do anything else because I did not want to miss her call again. I smiled when her name showed up on my phone screen.
Me: Hello! (I immediately answered her)
Lauren: Camila, did you just wake up?
Me: Yeah... (I was happy to hear her voice)
Lauren: Did you sleep well?
Me: Yeah... are you having your lunch?
Lauren: No, but I am going to the restaurant after this.
Me: Oh, you can call me later if you want to have lunch first.
Lauren: No, that's fine. What were you doing yesterday? (She sounded a bit different. I did not feel her smile)
Me: I... I am sorry. I was busy and did not check my phone. (She must be not happy I missed all her calls and messages yesterday.)
Lauren: What were you doing?"
