"This showed up at my back door just a few hours after you left." i say to Mai's parents who are sitting across from me. "Do you know what time? Did she knock? Did you see her?" They bombarded me with questions. "I opened the door at 5:14 PM to check for mail. She didn't knock. I didn't see her or any trace of her." they looked at each other and then back at me skeptically "that doesn't add up. Why would you open your back door to check for mail?" they ask, seeming to suspect a flaw in my plan "i didn't. I opened the front door, walked to the mailbox, and collected mail. It was a nice day so I decided to take the long way back inside. I walked to the back of my house and there I found the letter coming in the back door." i say, all straight faced, not forgetting to add a hint of correction-ness to my tone and face. "Oh." they say, seeming as if they feel bad for assuming anything. "Can we see the letter by any chance?" they asked to make sure i didn't throw it out or anything. "Why of course. Let me just go get it, i left it in my room," i say, getting up from my seat "in the meantime, make yourself at home, i might take a bit because i already forgot where i put it" i say sheepishly. Both of them laugh as I walk off to my room. Once I enter the room I take my time looking for it, I know where I put it, I'm just stalling thinking of how I'm gonna do this. Will I read it out loud? Or will I have them read it to themselves? They might want to hold it to make sure it's legit or something but it'll be easier if I can read it. I'll just ask them. Hmmmmm. I open all my drawers, making a bit of a commotion for them to hear. "Where did I put it!" I say, just loud enough for them to hear. I organize my drawers, taking my sweet time. I slam all my drawers once I'm done and make my footsteps to my bed louder so they can hear. You're probably wondering 'Oh I thOUght yOU LIvEd In A shEd' i did, but then a big storm happened and the shed flooded. Womp womp i guess. I look under my bed, rearranging everything under it. I finally go to my closet and clean it up a bit, grabbing the letter I made as well. "Oh! I found it!" I say, making sure they can hear, but not making it obvious I want them to hear. I start walking downstairs, when I get into sight, I visibly put it in my pocket. "Do you guys want any tea or coffee? I understand this may be a bit hard for you guys so I really want you to feel comfortable!" i say. I want them to be comfortable so they can trust me. And the more they trust me, the more I'm in the clear "oh! That would be nice! Right honey?" Mai's mother states, her wife agrees. "Yes, that would be lovely," she adds. "Great! I'll get started right away!" I say, walking to the kitchen. I'll slowly brew it. I grab three tea bags, three mugs, and one kettle. I pour the water in the kettle and place it on the stove. I turn the stove on medium heat and wait for the water to boil. Once it does the kettle screeches like an early morning rooster that wants to be fed. I slowly pour the boiling water into the mugs, careful not to spill the piping liquidy contents. I take the tea bags, putting them into the mugs. I wait for the tea to fully dissolve into the water. Once it does, I stir it around and throw away the tea bag, grabbing some honey from the shelf as I walk back to the counter. I open the cap with a big POP! And pour some in. I stirred it once more and put it on a small tray. I carry the tray back to the living room, setting it onto the coffee table. "There we are! I don't mind what mug you take, just set it down on a coaster when you don't want to hold it" I say, setting down three coasters. Both the women take a mug, each taking a sip "oooh! This is really good! How did you make it?" one of them asked "i boil the water, put the teabags in, and then stir in some honey. I also use a blend of herbal and healing tea" I say, slowly pulling the letter out of my pocket.
