Luckily for Spencer, the team and him were able to get through most of their day without being called away on a case.
Unluckily, Spencer spent most of the day dodging badly masked questions about his weekend activities.
Emily was relentless in her pursuit, and had at one point moved on to interrogate Derek, who quickly took refuge in Penelope's office. It was a good idea, Spencer thought, wondering if Hotch or JJ would be willing to shelter him from Emily's questions.
Admittedly, Spencer didn't actually mind all that much. Yes, he didn't want to tell the team everything just yet, because it was still pretty new and he didn't want to jinx it. But usually, the teasing he got revolved around him being hopeless in the romance department, so he was kind of relishing in Emily's confusion.
It made it so much sweeter that Derek knew about Ivy and Emily didn't, and Spencer made sure to lord the fact over her incessantly. If he was being honest, he was secretly enjoying this. Curse Emily for being such a good profiler, because Spencer knew she was only being so annoying because she could see he wasn't actually upset.
Maybe he should burst into tears and storm out of the office. That would get her off his back for sure, but unfortunately Spencer didn't have that much faith in his acting skills.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he barely noticed when his phone lit up with a text message. Unfortunately, Emily sure did.
Peering over onto his desk, Emily got a glance at the name on his screen.
"Ooh, is her name Ivy? Cute name. I think it fits her from what I can remember at the bar. This is the same girl right?" Emily furrowed her brow thoughtfully, as if she just thought of something that hadn't occurred to her before. "It is the same girl from the bar that you're seeing, right? I don't want to live in a world where the BAU baby knows what a one night stand is."
Spencer couldn't have stopped his eye roll if he tried. "Emily, what is it that you think we did when we left the bar? Get milkshakes?"
They did actually, but Emily didn't have to know that.
Emily just shuddered, muttering "ew" under her breath a few times, not even noticing that Spencer didn't actually answer her question. Oh well, it wasn't like she wouldn't figure it out soon enough, but Spencer was having fun with this.
Picking up his phone, Spencer was delighted to see that had indeed sent him a text. He opened it, looking at the image Ivy had sent him of a ridiculous looking scrub cap, images of that bee from The Bee Movie plastered all over it (which Spencer was surprised they even made).
The text under it read 'Arthur stole my scrub cap and replaced it with this monstrosity. Can we still call it hazing if I've been here for over a month at this point?'
She texted again, following it up with, 'On a completely unrelated note, what would the prison sentence be if I accidentally happened to push him down the stairs?'
Spencer laughed, only semi-aware of the grin he was now sporting, and responded: 'The Bee Movie is a masterful psychological deep dive into humanities willingness to accept taboo concepts such as bestiality if it is marketed to them in an colourful, comedic, kid-friendly way. It's wonderful and I think you should keep the scrub cap.'
Spencer didn't have to wait long for a response.
'We're going to talk about that sentence in depth once we're done with work. You can't just drop that sentence and move on.'
'Also,' Spencer texted again, 'if Arthur takes an unfortunate trip down the stairs, I'm presenting these texts as evidence.'
'So you're okay with your friends and family finding out you're this into the Bee Movie??'
