Spencer sighed as he opened the door to his apartment, feeling as if it had been forever since he had last been in it.
The case had taken four days, thankfully ending with Melanie Johnson safe in the care of her aunt. Turns out the unsub had been arrested previously on breaking and entering, where he had cut his finger and left behind DNA evidence. After scouring Kyle Donaldson's house, painstakingly testing every little pool of blood, they eventually found a partial bloody fingerprint. Luckily, the blood belonged to the unsub.
Spencer knew how rare it was to find an unsub by finding a DNA match, more often than not there wouldn't be any prior offences that provided any DNA evidence.
It was even luckier that they were able to find a location after another day and the unsub, a mentally unstable man with mommy issues who thought Melanie Johnson resembled his little sister (whom he had been separated from when he was a teen because he was displaying inappropriate behaviours), was apprehended and brought into custody.
It had ended as good as it probably could have, Melanie Johnson being found alive, but the last two days were so busy that Spencer hadn't had time to call Ivy again.
They texted a bit at night, both of them too exhausted to be on the phone for longer than a couple of minutes. But even though the conversations didn't last long, Spencer always enjoyed them. Ivy told him a little about her friends from Seattle, and about her life there, while Spencer reciprocated and told her a bit about what it was like growing up in Las Vegas. It wasn't anything deep, more just the general getting to know each other type questions, but it was still really nice.
Spencer already felt like he knew so much about her from their time at the diner, but admittedly they had probably skipped a few steps before he went home with her.
That was why he was so excited to be back home, that and the fact that he had really missed his bed. He could take her on a proper date now, and he was looking forward to it.
Hotch had given them two days off after having back to back cases, so Spencer knew he wouldn't be getting called at the last minute, and Ivy told him that she wasn't on call for those days as well. Unfortunately the movie she was interested in seeing was no longer playing, however Spencer found an old cinema, a bit of a drive away, that played reruns of old movies. They were showing 'The Phantom Menace', so Spencer planned to take Ivy out for a nice dinner and a movie.
He had been planning this on the plane ride back, and now all he had to do was ask Ivy. Surprisingly, he didn't feel nervous, which was new for him. He thought back to all those times when Morgan had pushed him to put himself out there in a bar, when approaching literally anyone to ask for their number felt like an impossible task.
But conversations with Ivy were easygoing and enjoyable, and Spencer was more than confident that she would be thrilled to go see the movie with him. Instead of nerves, all he felt was excitement at the prospect of seeing her again.
...
"Oh my god," Ivy groaned, sinking into her couch. "My back hurts so bad."
Laughing, Arthur collapsed across from her on her loveseat, stretching his legs out. "What a way to end the day, huh?"
He was referring to the very long, long surgery that Ivy had just pulled off, with Arthur's husband Dr. Roland Ward. Roland was the Head of Pediatric Surgery, and Ivy definitely admired him. When he wasn't raiding her wine collection, of course.
"What a way, indeed," Roland drawled, from his position standing in front of her open fridge. "Ivy, do you have anything other than 'Strawberry Samba..Wine Product?'"
