TW: Mentions of sexual assault, descriptions of a crime, suicide. This might be a rough one, everybody. Please, take care of yourself, know your limits, and sit this one out if you have to. Not much happens in terms of new characters interacting, they finish up the case from last chapter and Ivy and Spencer share a moment at the end of the chapter.
Standing at the foot of her patient's bed, Ivy took a moment to ponder how truly impressive it was that Spencer wasn't significantly more pessimistic than he is, if cases like these are the things he has to deal with on a regular basis.
As the kids' doctor, Ivy was given permission to stay in the room while Hotch asked all relevant questions, in fact Hotch specifically requested it. His reasoning was a little vague, saying that he wanted her in there "just in case". Which confused her, since why would things be getting heated when questioning an almost-murder victim?
When it was revealed that Lacy Anderson, the name which the kid gave the Agents, was a victim of a horrible, violent crime at the hands of the two murder victims and the teenager currently lying injured in a hospital bed, Ivy felt like she had vertigo. She had been really sympathizing with this kid, this victim of a horrible assault, and finding out he was also a perpetrator of one made her feel vaguely ill. She had felt so, so bad for this teenager who had just gotten shot, who had been through something so incredibly traumatic that he would likely never heal from it. Ivy knew what that was like, and she didn't wish it on anybody, but apparently Jacob Jones and his friends didn't think about that when they sexually assaulted their classmate.
Not only did they assault this girl, the three boys also recorded it, and yet none of them ever saw the inside of a jail cell. Ah, the benefits of being a rich, white man (or boy). And that was where they were at now, the recording.
"Jacob," Aaron said sternly, "you need to tell us who the fourth voice on the video is."
Jacob Jones shook his head, repeating the pattern that had been going on for the last couple of minutes. "I told you, it was only the three of us there."
"Stop lying to me, Jacob."
The tone of his voice made Ivy grateful that she got to be interviewed by "nice Hotch" (although she only just figured out that she got nice Hotch). Regardless, the kid didn't budge, resolutely shaking his head.
"Jacob," Hotch tried again, glowering, "If you don't tell me, then chances are Lacy is going to get to him first, and then he'll be dead. So you need to tell me who and where he is, right now."
His voice increased in volume steadily, and by the end of his sentence he was almost yelling, but not quite. Ivy kept an eye on Jacob's heart rate and blood pressure, because as much as she knew it was important Aaron got answers she knew Jacob was still in a precarious place and it wouldn't be good to put more stress on his body. She felt irrationally betrayed by the young man who she had empathized so hard with, but he was still her patient and still her responsibility.
"There was no one else there!" Jacob protested, his voice cracking from the emotion behind it. Ivy was struck by how young he sounded, much too young to have done such horrible things, and to have had such horrible things done to him in return. It was an odd combination of pity and disgust that Ivy was feeling, pity for the fact that obviously Jacob's parents didn't care enough for him to have raised him to be accountable for his actions.
Speaking of his parents, they were still in the room, and clearly did not take kindly to Hotch raising his voice.
"You have no right to speak to him like that," Jacob's father interrupted, his voice already grating on Ivy's ears. "He's done nothing wrong!"
