"Play nice."

I look at Connor from across the kitchen.

"I always play nice."

"I mean it, Mads." He says. "They are Hope's family."

"They kill innocent people, Con." I snap. "Innocent wolves. People like you and you're just inviting them into our home like it means nothing?"

"I'm not saying it means nothing."

"They killed the Hale's! I felt them all die! Every last one of them but a few. An entire bloodline of wolves just gone." I say. "They were Eli's family too unless you just forgot about him."

"I didn't.. I didn't forget about him."

Alaina was madly in love with Derek Hale a long time ago. She grew pregnant a few months before the Hale fire. Derek left along with his sister Laura. He asked Alaina to go with him and as badly as she wanted to, she stayed to be with family. It broke her heart.

She named Eli after Elijah. She loved him so dearly that she wanted to commemorate him. She wasn't ready to do it alone so she sent Eli to be raised by Kol and Davina. They live in Northern California where Alaina visits frequently.

"They're hunters. Cold blooded killers. So, asking me to play nice is like asking a dog not to bark."

I was heavily against the idea of inviting the Argent's over for Christmas Eve. It's usually when we celebrate and on Christmas Day we relax. I was outvoted. Connor ultimately makes the decision since he is our head of house. Lydia and Emily both didn't really have any input. Jeremy and myself did not like the idea.

Alaina however is refusing to come. She opted to spend this time with Eli. She left this morning to see him. Alaina still holds what they did to the Hale's to heart. And I don't really blame her. Even though we're not really talking.

The night of the Hale fire, I woke up screaming in pain. Feeling so many supernatural creature's die in such a close vicinity did a toll on me. I felt their pain like it was my own.

"I can't help who they are!"

"Then don't let them into Hope's life." I snap. "The only reason they don't come after us is because they know they won't win. Otherwise, you, Jere and Alaina would be dead."

I shake my head. The older brother I adored growing up, the man I always saw as my protector is slowly slipping away.

"The older brother I knew as a child it seems is slowly turning into someone I don't know."

"I could say the same thing about the little girl who wanted to be a hero."

He got me there.

"Being a hero is overrated. They don't get happy endings either."

I leave the kitchen. I walk past Millie.

"You okay?"

"I'm fine."

I run up to my room. Grace is still getting ready. She has her make up thrown on my vanity. I plop onto my bed and stare at the ceiling. My phone buzzes. I hold my hand up, summing it. I unlock it, going to my text messages. One unread text from Isaac and another from Stiles. I click Stiles first.

Stiles: Bench at 10?

Me: Yes. I'm already over this shit

"Isaac?"

I sit up and look at her. I told her about my pity date with Isaac. I didn't tell her I cut it short to see Stiles in the hospital.

"Stiles."
