I walk around Lexie and Mark's home. They're still unpacking their things. There's boxes everywhere. A half unopened box calls my name. I walk towards it, opening it.

I dig through it. I grab a birth certificate. It's Lexie's but it reads a different name.

"You know it's rude to snoop."

"Yeah well.. I'm not exactly polite."

I move the paper for her to see. She forces a smile.

"Madelyn Alexandria Bardin."

She grabs it from my hands.

"When I was born my mother thought I was the Emerald Witch. I think it was more of her wanting it to be me than thinking it was."

Over the course of the past couple weeks I've learned that Lexie didn't have the best upbringing. The youngest of five and being the most powerful she was often ostracized.

When my grandmother realized she wasn't the so called 'Chosen One' then she was pushed to the side in a sense. She was used for her power.

"When Elaine left I hated her.. I looked up to her so much." Tears form in her eyes. "I held that hatred so close to my heart. I let it blind me."

Lexie doesn't really like talking about my mother. Not that I blame her. I'm the same way. Or at least I used to be.

"But then I heard she named one of her children after me." She smiles and looks at me. "She wrote me a letter. All of your siblings were named after people she had saved except for you."

I just assumed we were randomly named. My mother named us and our father gave us our middle names. No surprise he named us all after his siblings who he held so dear to his heart.

"She said she held you in her arms and she saw me. She apologized for leaving me and said she'd rectify her actions."

I look at Lexie and I see an older version of myself. We have so much in common. I think it's why I've gotten so close her. She reminds me of what I lost. A mother.

"I waited too long to open that letter. By the time I did.."

"She was gone."

"It's not your fault, Maddy."

"Why change your name?"

She obviously doesn't go by Madelyn anymore.

"It wasn't me anymore. I was eighteen when I left the coven. I legally changed my name to Lexie." She sighs. "I wanted to still help people so I became a doctor."

"She talked to you, didn't she?"

Lexie and my powers are similar. My power outweighs hers but she's not far behind. It's a reason why my grandmother thought she was the Emerald Witch. Her ability to speak to the dead is the main reason.

"Not her."

I look at her confused for a second.

"Klaus." She says. "He can feel the dark path you're going down."

My throat closes in. I hold my tears back. I don't want to cry.

"I don't know what the love of a father feels like but I know that man loved you more than the entire world." She says. "And I know you're blocking them out."

"I can't.. I can't face them."

"They wouldn't have had it any other way."

I hate that so many people have died for me. It's not fair. I don't deserve it. They didn't deserve to die for me.

"Promise me something."

She looks at me, waiting for me to continue. Inviting her into my life is inviting her into my heart. I already hate how much I love her already. It's terrifying.

"Promise me that you won't die for me."

"I cannot promise that."

"Please.."

"Maddy, I can't promise that."

I shake my head.

"I lost my parents.. so many people and I cannot handle losing any more people I love." I say. "And I can see you becoming someone I cannot live without."

Tears start falling down my face.

"You remind me of my mom.." I cry. "And I can't.. I refuse to feel that pain all over again."

She grabs my body, pulling mine towards hers.
