Yn's POV Today, I'm taking Heesung to meet my family. To be honest, I'm feeling anxious about it. Most of my family believes I should marry a strong Black man, a notion I've never entertained romantically. My dating history has primarily involved Asian guys. My last relationship before Heesung was with a Black man who treated me terribly. It was only thanks to my aunt and cousin that I managed to escape that situation and get to Korea, where I started my own small business. They are the only family members I’ve kept in touch with.
Since Heesung and I got engaged last week, he has been eager to meet my family. He’s already spoken to my aunt and cousin, who have visited Korea several times over the past four years. I tried to avoid this trip, but with Heesung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Seonwoo, Jungwon, and Riki having a concert in my hometown, he insisted that I join him on the tour.
Now, as we sit in the car he rented, we're headed to my childhood home, where my family is waiting for us.
Heesung glances over at me, concern etching his features. "Mamas, what's the matter? You've been unusually quiet since we got in the car."
"I'm just scared, love," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper.
He frowns, pausing at a red light. "What are you scared of?"
I meet his gaze, feeling the weight of my fears. "You know I told you that most of my family thinks my attraction to Asian guys is just a phase. My mom wanted me to marry a different man—the one who pushed me away from home. Only my aunt and cousin support our engagement."
As he resumes driving, Heesung rests his hand on my thigh, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "It's been over four years since you last saw them. They might have changed."
I take a deep breath, nodding slowly. "You might be right. I really hope you're right..."
Just then, we pull up to the house. My heart races as we both step out of the car. I knock on the door, and when it swings open, I see my mother standing there. She greets me with a faint smile, but it falters when she notices Heesung. Her eyes widen as they fall on the ring on my finger, and in that instant, her expression shifts from curiosity to disbelief...
