I knew what I was doing, asking Elara to dance with me. Tarin would be upset with me for even thinking about the gesture. I couldn't watch him dance with her and miss my opportunity it would make my feelings for her worse.
"What are you doing, Rygar?" Elara asks as I sway her back and forth with the music. "What ever do you mean?" I ask, pretending to be offended by the question. She rolls her eyes and looks over to Tarin, who is shooting dagers at us while he sits on the bleachers with our other brothers. " I wanted a turn to dance with you." I cut in, drawing Elaras eyes back to me. "Why?" she asks, not breaking eye contact. We go back to dancing in silence, avoiding the question she just asked. I know she knows why. She was there when that wind drew her to Tarin and I. "I really am sorry." I say, breaking the silence. Elara looks back at me, thinking before responding finally, " I struggle to trust you, Rygar." " I understand that, but I really do mean what I say." I respond as the music draws to an end. Elara and I continue to sway, and before the song can come to a complete end, Tarin is already standing next to us, grabbing Elaras' hand.
I watch as the two walk towards the door to head outside for some fresh air. I turned to walk away, but before I could, Zandera was walking towards me. "So are you with Elara, or is Tarin? I'm just so confused" she asks, halting in front of me. I grind my teeth, tightening my jaw at the question. "Tarin is with her." I respond, pushing past her walking away. Zandera just wouldn't let the conversation die at that as she followed behind me. " So you aren't the least bit interested in her then?" she asks, trying to keep up. "Zandera what does it matter to you?" I ask, stopping her, almost bumping into me. "You told me you didn't care about her at the party!" she says, her voice raising an octave. "What I do with my life doesn't matter to you, Zandera, leave me alone." I say forcefully. "But.." she starts. "Enough Zandera, you look desperate and sad, I broke up with you. Elara had nothing to do with it!" I snap, making her back up.
"I had nothing to do with what?" Elara asks from behind me where her and Tarin had just walked back in. I turn to look at her with a look of shock. " Our break up!" Zandera says, stepping up behind me. "Because you're a whore who couldn't stand to have just one twin!" she continues stepping closer to Elara. "Excuse me!" Elara says moving closer to Zandera in the process. "You heard me bitch" Zandera says crossing her arms. I could see something flicker in Elaras eyes. She clenched her fist by her side not breaking eye contact with Zandera. I look at Tarin who breaks his stare to make eye contact. As Elara goes to lunge for Zandera Tarin grabs her waist and picks her up carrying her out the door. I step in front of Zandera at the same time keeping her from touching Elara. " I don't know how many more ways I can tell you this Zandera, but I guess I'll say it loud enough for everyone else to hear. We are done." I yell looking at everyone in the room. Zandera takes a step back before turning and running back to her friends crying.
I turn and walk out of the orb, hoping to find Tarin and Elara, but they are nowhere in sight. I didn't want to wait around here any longer, so I made my way back to my room. As I'm climbing up the stairs about to go to my door, Elaras door opens. I turn to see her standing there still in her pink dress from the night. She shuts the door behind her and casts a silencing spell. " Hi." she says softly, looking at me sadly. "Elara I'm so sorry for what Zandera said." I say staying where I am. "Rygar do you think I care for a minute what others think of me? I was the crazy girl for years!" she says softly, laughing. She takes a couple of steps closer to stand in front of me. My body tenses at the motion, knowing it can not touch her no matter how much I want to. "I accept your apology." Elara says, drawing my eyes to meet hers. Before I can give her a response, she pulls me in for a hug. My hands linger behind her before they meet her back to reciprocate the embrace. She smells amazing like flowers on a fresh spring morning. She turns to face me inches from my face, I look down at her lips, longing to kiss her. Her eyes follow, looking at mine as if she wants to do the same. I lean in a little more forward before she turns and kisses my cheek and pulls away. "Have a good night Rygar" Elara says, turning and opening her door where I can see Tarin laying on her bed past her. Before I know it, the door is closed, and I am left standing in the hallway.
I turn and open my door quickly, shutting it behind me, leaning my head against the door. I couldn't shake the feeling that Elara felt our connection as well. This was going to be more difficult than I could have ever imagined.
