*trigger warning*: mentions of self harm, ED
Ringggg… Ringggg….
Seonghwa groaned as he reached out for his phone to stop the alarm. He sat up, rubbing his eyes as he checked the time. His brain was definitely not working yet as he literally set his own alarm for 2am and he forgot what time he set it.
He switched on a light, going to the cupboard to get a thermometer. Using his phone as a flashlight, he walked to his room, opening the door slowly. He went into the room, switching on the lamp on the nightstand. Turning to Hongjoong, his eyes widened in shock.
On the bed, Hongjoong was fidgeting, one hand clenched tightly into a fist like he was about to fight someone and the other gripped the bedsheet tightly. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead and neck as he mumbled something, his face giving off a pained and troubled expression.
It was a difficult sight to see.
“How bad is the nightmare?” Seonghwa thought, remembering the nightmares he used to get. Every night, he would dream of Yujin coming after him. It was one of the worst things he had ever experienced. dreaming of himself getting into traumatic situations like this.
There was a high chance Hongjoong would hurt himself if he continued this way. Seonghwa knew it all too well. He would wake up with bruises and scratches on his legs from hitting or scratching himself because of his nightmare.
It took him so long to stop harming himself in his sleep, and it was tough. Even until now, when he has the occasional nightmare, he still accidentally harms himself sometimes.
“Hongjoong, Hongjoong, wake up.” Seonghwa whispered, not wanting to touch him in case it triggered a reaction from him.
Hongjoong fidgeted again, more sweat rolling down his neck and onto the sheets. Seonghwa looked at him worriedly, seeing as he was getting worse.
“Hongjoong, please. You can’t stay like that.” Seonghwa said, a little louder, but Hongjoong still stayed as he was, except that his hand visibly clenched the bedsheet tighter.
“Kim Hongjoong. Get up, please. You can’t stay this way, you could hurt yourself!” Seonghwa exclaimed, shaking his shoulders.
Hongjoong jolted up, sitting upright. Seonghwa sighed in relief as he saw Hongjoong awake, and was about to tell him something when he realised Hongjoong’s tear stained face.
Hongjoong sat there panting heavily, tears running down his face as he looked around. His hand gripped the other one tightly, trying to stop it from shaking as he started breathing even faster, his chest going up and down at an abnormally fast rate.
Seonghwa sat on the bed, facing Hongjoong. He put his hands on Hongjoong’s shoulders, looking him in the eye.
“Hongjoong, listen to me. Breathe. Breathe, okay? You’re fine.” Seonghwa said those words slowly and comfortingly. He watched as Hongjoong nodded but still couldn’t stop hyperventilating.
“Hongjoong, Hongjoong. Breathe. Don’t do that, okay? Slowly.” Seonghwa repeated, putting his hand on Hongjoong’s chest.
He nodded encouragingly as Hongjoong slowed down his breathing, finally getting it back to normal after a while. Seonghwa smiled as he rubbed Hongjoong’s arm gently.
“How are you feeling?” Seonghwa asked, looking at the table for his thermometer. He looked back at Hongjoong when he didn’t get a reply, not expecting to see Hongjoong now crying worse than before.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Shh…. You’re totally fine, okay?” Seonghwa whispered kindly, letting Hongjoong bury his head in his shirt. He cradled his head gently, watching as Hongjoong cried his heart out.
