The clock struck 11. Hongjoong looked at his watch again, confirming that it was, in fact, an hour to 12. He walked out of his office again, looking around, only to get creeped out by the silence and dark lift lobby, so he walked back into his brightly lit office.
Seonghwa hadn’t come out yet, and Hongjoong was starting to get worried. Surely he was sensible enough to know that no one expected him to work until 12 midnight, right? Maybe not. Or maybe he had simply lost track of time. Hongjoong wanted to go and look for him, to check up on him, but each time he tried to step foot into the main office, his legs always carried him back here.
As the clock hands slowly moved to the number 6, Hongjoong decided that he had had enough. It was 11.30 and Seonghwa still hadn’t gone home. It wasn’t safe, not for a woman, not for a man. He closed his laptop and picked up his bag, prepared to send Seonghwa home and return to his own house.
He entered the main office, shivering a little at the cold air. As expected, the whole place was deserted. The office was pitch black, except for a small light shining from one of the desks at the corner of the office. Hongjoong made his way towards the desk, hoping that he wouldn’t scare Seonghwa.
As he neared the desk, he found it odd that it was so silent. Shouldn’t there be some rustling sounds or some flipping sounds? Why was it eerily quiet? He hoped that Seonghwa was fine, because anything was possible at this time of the night.
“Seonghwa?” he whispered, walking into the walkway his desk was situated at.
“Seonghwa?” he asked again, eyes widening when he saw Seonghwa sprawled out on the table.
“Hyung, I’m going home now! Will you be okay here alone?” Mingi asked, picking up his bag. Seonghwa looked up at him with tired eyes, smiling.
“Yeah, go home. I’ll be fine here. Your son must be waiting for you.”
“Are you sure? You can clock out now and go home, you know. I can send you home.”
“I’m fine. I’ll go home later. “Now get going, please. It’s so late already and your family is waiting for you!” Mingi hugged Seonghwa, thanking him before rushing out of the office. Yunho had already sent him death threats, after he said that he would be home at 7 but was already 8.
Seonghwa continued to work until around 11, where he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head. Groaning, he was forced to stop his work and stand up for a while. “Shit…” he mumbled. “I skipped dinner…”
As the pain gradually subsided, he decided to finish up and pack up for the day, before he fainted or something worse happened.
Too bad that another splitting pain attacked him a few minutes later, causing him to grip the sides of the table in agony. He felt as if his head was being split open, and the world seemed to be spinning around him.
He barely managed to pack up his items before having to sit back down as the pain intensified. Slowly, he felt himself slipping in and out of consciousness. He had to slap himself on the face a few times to keep himself awake, but the pain only got worse,
He felt himself slip into a stormy ocean before everything really went black.
Hongjoong sighed as he swept Seonghwa’s fringe away from his face, revealing the man’s pale, exhausted face. His skin tone was shades lighter than his normal shade, dark eye circles were evident around his eyes, and his cheekbones were noticeably more visible than the last time Hongjoong had seen him.
Hongjoong carried his backpack on his shoulders, freeing up his arms to help Seonghwa. He cleared his desk, stacking up the papers nicely before switching off his laptop and helping him to put all his items into his bag. Carrying his backpack on another shoulder, Hongjoong put his arms around Seonghwa, preparing to carry him.
