10: CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Risa Pov

After a night filled with intimacy, I woke up not so early. It's 5:00 am, I should head back to my home before sunlight. I don't want anyone to see me visiting Alice especially so early in the morning. Ayaw ko ng dagdagan pa ang mga problema ni Alice.

I glanced at Alice who was now peacefully asleep, her face serene and beautiful. I smiled at her, brushed a strand of hair from her face—it was all so perfect, the memories we shared last night.

I quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake her up, I dressed in silence using the clothes I bought for Alice.
Before leaving, I went emotional as I picked up a pen and paper, pouring my heart into a note.

"Alice, I enjoyed our little time together last night. I will come back here again, will you wait for me? Eat for breakfast and lunch, don't starve yourself again! I have a meeting today, my presence is important there. See you and I'm really sorry again...(⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠³⁠˘⁠)⁠♥"

I don't wanna leave her yet, I wanna spare some more time with her!

With a heavy heart, I placed the note on the pillow, kissed Alice's forehead softly, and walked out the door.

On my way outside, I bumped with the police officers who were assigned to be the patroller of this hour. He gave me a questionable look and I responded with a calm but heart racing manner. "Good morning, Madam Senator, ang aga po ata ng bisita niyo?"

Thank God, he wasn't the chief officer whom I met yesterday.

"Yes, I just informed Ms. Guo for her next hearing. I will head back to the senate now. I'm sorry for disturbing you, Sir." I don't know what to answer. It seems to work though as he nodded his head. I'm really a good liar, huh. "No worries, Madam Senator." He said while opening the door for me. I thanked him and left quickly.

While driving, my phone suddenly rang.

"Hello." I answered but my eyes are still placed in the driveway. "where are you?! I called your caretaker just now to ask for you but she said you weren't there." Ano kayang problema nitong si Leny, ka-aga aga eh.

"I'm on my way. You're so loud!" I replied, shouting back from the phone. "At san ka naman nanggaling at di ka umuwi kagabi?" I heard Loren's voice from afar. Itong si Loren talaga masyadong mausisa.

"Important matters." I said formally. Trying not to sound suspicious.

"At sinong importante ba ang nandun sa PNP cramé?" My eyes widened, how the hell did they know? "Hey, you still there?" Nabalik ako sa ulirat after a moment of silence.

"I'll explain it to you guys later, okay...bye bye!" After I bid my goodbye I turned my phone off and focused my eyes on the driveway.

What kind of excuses na naman kaya ang masasabi ko sa dalawang yon. Di pa naman basta basta naniniwala ang mga yon. huhuhuhu help me Lord!

"So, what 'matters,' did you and Ms. Guo have talked about?" May diing tanong ni Loren, as soon as I got inside my office. Taong 'to, 'di man lang ako pinaupo. I rolled my eyes at her and they just chuckled.

"Pinapasundan niyo ba ako?" I asked them with my two eyebrows arched up. Paano nilang alam na si Ms. Alice Guo ang pinuntahan ko?

"Excuse us, 'Ms. Senator Risa Hontiveros'. We won't and will never do that to you because we are your best friend. It's your actions that might put you in danger for not being careful." Kumunot naman ang nuo ko sa sinabi niya.
