The Major didn’t give me a chance to answer his question.

“Ah, right, you said you don’t remember. No, that can’t be it. Your husband must have told you. Tell me everything about how you ended up marrying Johann Renner, from start to finish, without leaving anything out.”

He demanded the story of how I married Johann, acting like a superior officer requiring a report of the situation. But I couldn’t provide any answers.

“I don’t know.”

“Why don’t you know? Didn’t your husband tell you?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

I had no answer to give.

“It’s strange. If it were me, having wooed such a beauty to spend her life getting tied up at home to only receive my d**k, I would’ve proudly boasted about it everywhere. Making sure the whole world knows how good my d**k is.”

It seemed to him that a woman is not an object of affection but merely an outlet for lust. Lacking affection, only knowing lust, he was more beast than man.

Yet, this beast in human clothing did nothing but speak vile words without actually laying a hand on me.

Ring.

The Major soon turned his attention to work.

“Already arrived, huh? Have them wait at the main entrance.”

But he kept dropping cigarette ash and trash on the floor, making it impossible for me to finish cleaning.

“You may leave now.”

After a couple of hours, unable to finish cleaning the office due to his actions, the Major let me go. As I walked out of the bunker towards the farm’s main gate, I heard a familiar voice.

“Rize!”

“Johann!”

I ran towards Johann, who was standing outside the fence, and hugged him. Johann was cold. He must have rushed over as soon as he learned I was taken and had been waiting outside in the cold for me.

“Are you alright? Nothing happened?”

“Nothing happened.”

Johann looked over me with worry and anger still visible on his face. Only when I assured him that I had only been cleaning did he relax.

“I’m glad you’re safe.”

As Johann held me, we heard a scoff from behind.

“These chaps, what do they take me for?”

Major Felkner had followed us out and was observing us.

The thought that the Major might harm us because he was offended, along with Johann shielding me behind him, filled me with dread.

“Let’s go.”

Johann urged me to move ahead, shielding me with his body as he followed slowly behind.

“Hey, Renner. Forgot your ax today?”

We backed away cautiously from the Major, who was armed with a gun.

“That’s amusing.”

Panting from running, I glanced back to see the Major blowing out smoke and laughing at us mockingly.

“I hate getting involved in relationships like this. Being used as a villain who interferes with someone’s true love, harming innocent people.”

Even though he said he doesn’t pursue married women, he left me with these words.

“See you again, Rize Einemann.”

And called me by my maiden name.

We had our first major argument after returning home that day. Then, for the next two days, we argued for the same thing daily until it escalated on the third day.

“Rize Renner, you are to respond whenever Major Felkner summons you,” a soldier conveyed the Major’s orders and left.

Johann didn’t believe it was just cleaning I was summoned for, despite it being the only task assigned. Wanting to protect me, Johann offered to accompany me, but he was banned from entering the bunker.

“Let’s leave here, today, before you are taken away again.”

As soon as the soldier left, Johann started packing.

“Johann, wait. Don’t do this.”

The man who used to listen to me until yesterday wouldn’t listen anymore.

“Are you really leaving?”

“Do you actually want to stay after such orders have been issued?”

“Johann, think rationally. If we leave, we’ll starve.”

“So, you think it’s better to be violated by that man than to starve with me?”

“Do you prefer we both starve to death?”

“Rize… I don’t want you to sacrifice yourself.”

“I’m not planning to sacrifice myself. If we leave this winter, we’ll either starve or freeze to death, but staying doesn’t guarantee I’ll be violated.”

“How can you be sure?”

“Nothing happened last time. It was just cleaning. People constantly come and go in the office. There are so many eyes in the bunker.”

“Sure, just cleaning. Until you let your guard down.”

“Are you saying he’s trying to lower my guard to attack? If he was set on assaulting me, he wouldn’t need to wait.”

He could simply threaten me with a gun, so why would he need to disarm my wariness first?

“He might be trying to shake you.”

Despite the serious atmosphere, I couldn’t help but laugh at Johann’s absurd suspicion.

“Even if he tries, do you think I’d fall for it? Johann, were you worried I might be tempted by another man?”

It was rare to see Johann act out of jealousy.

“Rize, if he was just trying to woo you like any ordinary man, I wouldn’t worry.”

“Right. You don’t need to worry. You’re the only one for me.”

I snuggled into his embrace, and Johann hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead.
