Perfect. Just perfect. Of course an undead outbreak happened at base camp, my best friend went missing, we found her but oh, we're stuck on a watchtower with monsters climbing up towards us. I admit that my luck hasn't been great so far but this is definitely crossing a line. I look down again and see the undead clawing their way up to the top, with nothing but hunger in their eyes. There's this type of yearn, a candid determination that sets their eyes apart of ours'. It's haunting, the look they give when they see their prey. All the memories from their once normal life, all fogged up and buried away. It's tragic.
I feel the panic continuously rising up by the second and I wasn't alone. I look over to see Yara in a state of pure shock, holding James's arm for support, both physical and moral. James's face is lined with fear. We all start backing off from the edge. I'm the first to break the silence, "Holy fuck, what do we do?" "How are we supposed to get out from here", Yara questions in a breathless voice. James thinks for a minute and says, "This is going to sound bonkers but I've got an idea." Yara and I look over to James, a glint of hope in our eyes. "Well, you better say it now, James", I urge him to speak. He walks over to the other side of the watchtower and looks down, "We're gonna have to jump."
On cue, Yara and I both start frantically talking over each other, a mix of calling him crazy and a bunch of 'Oh God-s'. "Guys, guys! Please listen to me. There's a med-tent right beneath this tower, the one you hid in", he looks at Yara, "I think this tent will be able to cushion our fall." I walk over to where James was standing and looked down. He was right, this was our best bet. I give them both a nod and a quick 'ok', when Yara says, "There is no way I'm jumping down! I'm already in pain what if something...breaks?" I make my way towards Yara and face her, putting both my hands on her shoulder, "Yara, either we take the chance of being injured or we're all going to be meat in a minute." The growls started getting more intense and the clawing drew nearer.
She contemplates the situation for a minute, looking down at the tent and then looking back at where the undead were going to emerge in a few seconds. She nods and together James and I take hold of Yara's hands on either side. We walk towards the edge and I look back and see and undead's head pop over the edge. "Ok, so we're doing this", Yara breathes. Her grip grows tighter around my hand. "Fuck, I'm so scared of heights", James says. "This was YOUR idea!", Yara says, turning to James. "I'm well aware", he gives an answer. My glance had not left the other side, where now two undead were almost up at our level, their waists coming into view and slowly their legs trying to get on top. "It's now or never, guys", I yell at both of them, still bickering. They get quiet and we all look at look at each other, giving looks of terror masked by encouragement.
"3...2...1!", I yell and we all jump over the edge and on to the tent below us. We were in the air for just a few seconds but it felt like an eternity. I was readying myself for the, 'your life will flash before your eyes thing' but it never came. Instead what came was a loud tearing of the tent's cloth and all of us landing down at what I made out to be beds. We fell with so much force that the beds in this med-tent broke apart but they did shield us from the hard fall. We all landed with successive thuds, a few milliseconds apart. Luckily, my head was saved and the only thing that hurt was my butt. I opened my eyes and saw James and Yara, both coughing because of the dust, trying to get up from the floor. I got up first and helped Yara get up while James dusted off his clothes. "All good?", I ask looking at them both, tracing their bodies for any injuries. James nods and Yara says, "I think my leg hurts a lot more now", while leaning over the bed frame.
"We have to run to the dock as soon as possible, the rescue might be arriving anytime now", I declare, rubbing Yara's back. "I'm in good shape, Yara why don't you get on my back and we'll make it to the dock", James offers. She agrees and he leans down for Yara to get on his back. Luckily, I still had my gun from before. I checked it's bullets and to my horror, only three were left. "Ok, so I need you to stay close to me alright? Run as fast as you can 'cause I don't have a lot of bullets left anyway", I instruct James as he secures Yara on his back.
I still hear screams and roaring outside. Soon, we're all going to be reunited with Dylan and Cam and this bloody nightmare will be over. We've made it this far, there's no way I'm going to back down. I position myself near the tent's opening flaps, looking through the, waiting for the perfect opportunity to run out. I feel James and Yara, ready behind me.
Now or never, I find myself repeating. I see no undead out the tent and I wait a second longer, and say:
Go
A/N: Hey guys, so sorry for the delay. I know it's a really short chapter but I promise I'll try and release chapters more frequently from now on! Stay tuned because it's going to get even crazier ;) xxx
