Y/n POV

My name is Y/n Y/s/n Parker, and I am the first child of Richard and Magda Parker. I was born in October 1984 in what many consider the greatest city in the United States—New York. I have lived in Queens with my parents and grandfather since birth. Unfortunately, shortly after my fourth birthday, my grandfather passed away, and two months later, we moved to Poland, where my mother is from. I have been living here for almost 12 years now and have two younger sisters.

The alarm clock woke me up at 8:00 AM. I got out of bed, realizing that over two months of rest were officially over. I looked at the calendar and saw the date that all students in Poland dread: September 1st, 2000.

After staring at the calendar for a moment, I remembered that my vacation this year would last a week longer. "We're going on a four-day camping trip to the seaside with another class tomorrow," I said to myself, smiling. I then walked away from the calendar and started my morning routine.

At 8:40, I left the house wearing a navy blue shirt, heading to school for the ceremonial start of the school year. This meant sitting in the gymnasium for at least an hour, listening to the same tedious speeches and performances as every other year.

The ceremony began exactly at 9:00 AM. Unfortunately, none of my friends showed up. As usual, time began to drag during such moments. The hour I was supposed to spend there felt like it lasted an eternity. To pass the time, I tried to occupy my mind with interesting thoughts or recall all the facts and formulas from physics that I knew. However, the loudspeakers and squeaky microphone made it nearly impossible for me to concentrate. Fortunately, this hour of torture finally came to an end, and shortly after ten, the vice principal instructed all the students to go to their classrooms with their teachers.

Since we were entering the third grade, the teacher simply welcomed us to the new school year, reminded us about the upcoming trip, and soon after, we were all free to go home. The rest of the day went by pretty quickly. In the evening, I packed my bag for tomorrow's trip and went to bed early.

I woke up at 5:30 AM, got ready, took my camera, and headed to the meeting point in front of the school. When I arrived, I noticed two friends waiting for me, and we did our usual handshake.

A/n: Sorry if these Polish names are a problem.

"Why weren't you at school yesterday?" I asked.

"You know well that I live forty kilometers from the school and the trains to my house run every three hours," Michał replied.

"Let's say that this is a half-excuse because, during those two other hours, we could have gone to my place and played FIFA like always."

"And what do you have to say?" I asked Kacper.

"I missed the bus," he said.

"You could have come up with a better excuse. I know well that these buses leave every few minutes."

"Okay, t–" he started to explain but was interrupted.

"Everyone get on the bus and take your seats!" shouted the teacher standing next to us

We ended our conversation and headed to find our seats on the bus I sat next to Michał, in the middle of the vehicle. Kacper was on the other side, three rows in front of us, stuck in the only free seat with some girl. He didn't look thrilled about it. When we sat down with Michał, we only saw his deadly gaze in our direction. We immediately burst into laughter and were glad that his seat wasn't given to any of us.

The three-hour journey was full of loud giggles, and we didn't even notice when we arrived. Once we left the bus, the teacher instructed us to go to our designated five-person tents. In my tent, along with Michał and Kacper were two classmates known for being somewhat foolish. We all wondered how they had even passed last year, especially since, if I remember correctly, they had received five failing grades just a week before final grades were issued.
