Chapter 7
Crush
Everything was a sudden blur. Jax and Cali broke up... Then suddenly, Cali stopped going to school.
The last time she was here, she passed out and Chance carried her to the clinic. Wala nang ibang balita pagtapos.
Gelo and I were at the library together. Naging routine na lang lately ang mga ginagawa namin. Aral, bar, humanap ng lalaki, hanapin si Cali, repeat.
"So, any news from your brother?" I asked Ge. "I tried to asked Xianna because she's in the same circle as Cali's brother but to no avail."
"Tinanong ko na si Kuya Andy. He knows nothing," he said and sighed. "How about Chance?"
I scratched my head using Gelo's pen. "We asked him already, right?"
Gelo snatched his pen away from me. "I just feel like he knows something..."
"Me too." Nagulat kami kay Grant na biglang lumitaw at umupo sa table namin.
My mouth formed a circle. Never niya ito ginawa! Like ever!
Tumango-tango naman si Gelo. "Something needs to be done."
Tumingin silang dalawa sa akin at agad akong napairap. "What? Bakit kayo nakatingin sa 'kin?"
"Ikaw ang bunot," aniya.
"Luh!" Mahina lang iyon pero may tono. "Bakit ako? Ano namang gagawin ko kay Chance? Bakit hindi si Grant at magpinsan naman sila!"
"Tangek. Sino bang eabab sa 'ting tatlo?" si Gelo pa rin.
"Eabab by heart ka naman, ah!" Daing ko.
"What's eabab?" Kunot noong tanong ni Grant at tila hindi makasabay.
"Babae!" Sabay naman naming sagot ni Gelo.
Halos i-sshh na kami ng ibang mga estudyante roon sa lib dahil ang ingay na namin!
The plan was to try to get Chance to talk... If he really knows where Cali is and what's happening to her.
Among us three, ako nga lang ang makakalapit kahit papaano kay Chance. Of course, Grant won't because of whatever their beef is with each other. Gelo? It'd be too obvious. And we cannot ask Jax to take part of any of this, not now. His mom, the headmistress, is in the hospital.
Sumasakit ang ulo ko dahil hindi ko alam ang gagawin.
When I saw Chance with his Class B friends walking down the hallway, I immediately followed.
"What a coincidence! Papunta kayo sa food bazaar?" Kunwari pa'y papunta rin talaga ako roon pero kanina ko pa talaga siya inaabangan.
"Yeah, you?" He asked.
"Sama ako sa inyo," I casually said, trying to act all natural. "I'm craving for something!"
Kumunot ang noo niya, nagtataka sa sinabi ko, "Where are your friends?"
"What friends?" I asked him. "You mean Gelo?"
Natahimik kaming dalawa. Slowly realizing that we were the only ones left.
Literally.
"Asan na ang mga 'yon?" Si Chance at lumingon-lingon dahil biglang nawala ang mga kasama. "Tara, kain na lang tayo."
