2nd year in the league

There's been a lot of shuffling of players during the off season. Normally I'd understand it but seeing a whole different team is hard.

We've got a new person, Gabby Williams.

She's been feeling the girls out and tries to act like she isn't nervous. I'm observant though and I can tell she is.

It's February and she's been here a few weeks already. I've been feeling her out.

We're all doing one of those 'you don't have to come if you don't want to' practice. Want to guess how many of us showed up? Everyone.

It's been pretty lowkey and I laugh as Jewell tries to get her sweat on Gabby.

They run around the gym and a few people pull their phones out to record. This is the Jewell that not everyone gets to see. She's all serious on the court.

Gabby starts running towards me and I look at them in alarm.

Her hands go on my shoulders as she uses me as a shield. My finger goes up to point at J.

"If you get your sweat on me then I will slice your throat." She holds her hands up in surrender and slowly backs away.

I can feel Gabby laughing against my neck and I turn toward her.

My neck has to strain a little in the effort of looking up. She's grinning down at me and I can't help but smile back. "Thank you for that. Did you see how sweaty she was?" She's laughing softly and I join in.

"Don't worry about it. She tried doing that to me last year because I was a rookie, guess who found some pink hair dye in their shampoo the next day." Her eyes widen and I smirk at the look on her face. "You didn't!"

We're walking over to the locker room as practice just ended and she offhandedly asks me a question. "Would you like to grab lunch with me?" Surprise hits me again.

My cheeks heat up and I glance at her out of the corner of my eye. She opens the door for me as we head in.

"Oh," She's not really been out with anyone yet. Not because we don't want to but because everyone has been on vacations and is overall pretty busy. I mean, just last week I was visiting my family. My sister, Sam, had a club volleyball tournament that she was excited for me to go to. "Sure. What did you have in mind?"

She grins big at that and shrugs.

"Wherever you think is good. I haven't been here as long as you."

I nod my head at that. "I know a good place. We can talk about how you're settling in here. Let me go to mine for a change of clothes and then I'll pick you up?"

"Sounds perfect. I need to check on my cat anyways."

"We also are talking all about your cat because they're adorable. Hope you're ready for your interrogation." She looks a little nervous and I just laugh.

About an hour later I'm pulling up to her apartment. I don't know which one is hers so I just text her that I'm here.
