14. hi family

The coaches are about to let the girls go home for Christmas and I am so ready to go home. My sister is actually going to be able to spend the holidays at home so for the first time in years, we're all going to be together.

My parents have been so excited to hear that I'll visit this year.

They're the absolute cutest people on this earth. And they always show their support even if they can't physically be there.

Dad has a chronic illness that makes it hard for him to get around, so I always tell them to just call me after an event or game and we can talk about it.

You should have heard the facetime call after we won the gold medal.

I'm about to leave the facilities when I accidentally overhear Paige on the phone. She soudns upset so I stop.

She hangs up and I can see that she wants to cry.

"Paige? What's wrong?" She looks at me in surprise but I can see the sadness on her face.

"My flight got cancelled and there aren't any others available on such short notice. I can't go home for Christmas. And Drew really wanted to see me." She looks so upset so I pull her into a hug.

"I'm sorry, P. I know how much you've been waiting for this." It's true. She's been talking about this visit since Thanksgiving.

I rub her back and I can feel a few tears escape her eyes and land on my shirt. She's never cried in front of me before.

"It's alright. I guess this just means I'll have the gym to myself."

Before I know it, words are leaving my mouth. "Come home with me." Her eyes widen and she shakes her head no.

"I don't want to intrude. This is your family time. Enjoy your break, Daisy." I roll my eyes even though she can't see it.

"Look, I wasn't asking. My mom is the best and my sister kind of wants to meet you. Besides, my dad would actually kill me if he knew I left you when you were upset. I also wasn't asking. So go grab your back and come to my apartment."

"You're not serious are you?" I just grab her hand and yank her out of the gym and to our cars.

"If you aren't at my apartment in thirty minutes then I will track your location and force you into my car. You are coming home with me whether you want to or not."

She holds her hands up in mock surrender and we both go our separate ways.

Maybe I should have talked to my family before inviting someone the don't know to our family time, but I also know that they won't mind.

Regardless of what I think, I text the family groupchat anyways.
