A Rose Between the Thorns

Chapter 2

Charmy had left me to go put my food away for later, I couldn't stop smiling, this had to be the greatest day of my life. I was taken out of my thought as I heard some familiar shouts coming from the hallway. "Hey, what's all the commotion up here for?"

Passing through the doorway was Magna, he looked confused and annoyed, but I didn't care, now depending on when I had fallen into this world I only had Luck, Noelle and Asta to meet. "Oh right." Finral began, looking from Magna to me. "Rose this is Magna." At first Magna looked confused when his name was mentioned but then he noticed me in the crowd of his squad mates.

"Oh hey, who's this?" He asked as he walked over, a full smile on his face. "I'm Rose, it's nice to meet you Magna." I said extending my hand as he got closer, once he was close enough he shook it, but the moment he did I noticed his hand was wet. "Sorry to sound rude, but why's your hand wet?" I asked having an idea in mind, but wanting to be sure first I asked.

His smile turned into a disgruntled frown. "I was down feeding those beast, seeing as Asta's not here I had no choice but to do it." So I was right, wait why isn't Asta here? Feigning confusion I asked, "who's Asta?" It was Yami who answered after taking a drag of his cigarette. "Right, Asta, Noelle and Luck are out on a mission in a dungeon, probably won't be back till tomorrow."

So I arrived during the dungeon arc, wait that means they don't know about the eye of the midnight sun yet, or the elves, maybe I could help. "Well I can't wait to meet them." I smiled though not as wide as I wanted to as to not come across as too weird, though I am a girl that Yami just happened across in the forest claiming to have no memories, how much weirder could I get.

I then felt a pair of eyes burning a whole in me, when I looked around I found Finral staring at me with an interested look on his face. "Everything ok Finral?" I asked out of curiosity. "Yeah it's just, where's your grimoire?" Ah, I should have known they would ask something like that. "The thing is, I don't have one." I just decided to be honest, honesty's the best policy, unless your a girl who traveled to another world, so maybe I'm excluded from that, oh well.

His and everyone else's faces turned confused, some more than others. "What do you mean you don't have a grimoire, your 19?" It was Gauche who asked with a dumbfounded look on his face. "Well I remember one thing and that's that I don't have a grimoire." Now they all seemed either confused or dejected.

"Well it's your lucky day. Me and Vanessa needed to go into town anyway, so you come along and we'll get you your grimoire." I could feel my stomach doing flips and my eye's sparkle if that was even possible, at Yami's words. "That would be incredible, thank you." As I said this Vanessa was putting her hat and Black Bulls robe on, then she threw her arm over my shoulder smiling at me, yep this is defiantly the best day of my life.

Once the three of us were ready Yami grabbed Finral to make us a portal and we were off. The Capital felt so much larger and livelier than it had in the show, stalls on every corner selling things from everyday objects, to some I couldn't even recognise. "I wonder if Julius is selling his snakes." I whispered to myself, chuckling as we wen't. "Hey Rose what's got you laughing?" Vanessa asked, I just said a random thought came to mind she said nothing after that and she, Yami and Finral continued to lead the way to the Capital's grimoire tower.

We soon arrived after another five minutes of walking and once I saw it I immediately recognised it as the same tower that Patri got his grimoire from when he first awoke. The memory made me smile and thrown at the same time. I was excited to get my grimoire and be somewhere that someone like Patri had been, but then I remembered all the things that led up to it and all the events that were yet to happen.

I pushed the thought aside for now, because right now I was about to get my own grimoire. As we walked in and I saw all the grimoires lined up on the shelves a thought immediately came to mind, do I even have any mana. I mean mana doesn't even exist in my world, but then again Yami and the others seemed convinced I could get one, so I'd have to believe I could to.
