By the time Adrian pulled up to Lily's family estate, the sky was a deep purple, scattered with stars. The grand mansion loomed ahead, its warm lights glowing like a beacon. Inside the car, Lily was still asleep, her head tilted against the window, her long brown hair falling in soft waves across her cheek.
Adrian turned off the engine and sat quietly for a moment, watching her with a tenderness that no one else ever saw. She looked so peaceful when she was asleep. So small, so delicate, like a little doll he needed to protect from the world.
Gently, he reached over and brushed her hair from her face, his fingers lingering on her soft skin. "Baby," he whispered, his voice low and tender. "We're home."
Lily stirred slightly, letting out a soft, sleepy whimper. "Mmm... Don't wanna get out..." she mumbled, still half-asleep.
Adrian's lips twitched into a fond smile. "You're too tired, hmm?" Without waiting for her to respond, he unbuckled her seatbelt and scooped her up into his arms, careful not to wake her fully.
She nuzzled into his chest with a content sigh, her small arms wrapping lazily around his neck.
Inside the house, the familiar scent of lavender and vanilla greeted them. Adrian carried Lily up the grand staircase and into her bedroom, gently placing her down on the plush bed. She stirred but didn't let go of him, her fingers clinging to the collar of his shirt.
"Stay..." she whispered, her voice small and drowsy.
Adrian's heart clenched painfully at how vulnerable she sounded. "Of course, baby. I'm not going anywhere."
He settled beside her on the bed, cradling her tiny frame against his side. Lily snuggled closer, her head resting on his chest, her small hand fisting the fabric of his shirt as if afraid he might leave.
For a while, they lay there in silence, the room bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight streaming through the curtains. Adrian's hand stroked her hair gently, his other arm wrapped protectively around her waist.
"Adrian?" she murmured, her voice a soft whisper against the quiet.
"Hmm?"
She shifted slightly, her brown eyes peeking up at him through her long lashes. "Why do you always do so much for me?"
Adrian's breath hitched for a moment. It was such a simple question, but it carried more weight than she probably realized.
He brushed his thumb along her cheek, his voice soft and sincere. "Because you're everything to me, baby. I've loved you and I always will."
Lily blinked, her cheeks flushing a soft pink. She looked down, biting her pouty lips—a rare moment of shyness from someone so used to being spoiled.
"You don't care that I'm annoying?" she whispered.
Adrian let out a soft laugh, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I like that you're annoying. I like everything about you, Lily. Every little bit."
Lily's heart fluttered in her chest, and she buried her face in his neck, feeling safe and warm in his arms. "You're weird," she mumbled, but there was no bite in her words.
Adrian smiled, holding her closer. "Maybe. But I don't mind it"
Lily giggled softly, her small frame relaxing completely against him. For the first time that day, she felt truly content. No tantrums, no demands, just a quiet moment between the two of them.
After a while, Adrian noticed her breaths growing slower and deeper, her body going limp in his arms as sleep claimed her once again. Even in sleep, she clung to him like he was the one anchor keeping her afloat. He gazed down at her, noting the faint traces of makeup smudged under her eyes and the soft pink blush still dusting her cheeks.
