The black luxury car glided through the streets as Adrian drove with one hand on the wheel, the other resting possessively on Lily's small thigh. She sat beside him, humming idly, playing with the hem of her pink dress. Her legs swung beneath the seat, too short to touch the floor, and she kept glancing at him with a smug little smile.
"You better buy me two scoops," Lily muttered playfully. "Last time you only got me one."
Adrian chuckled, his gaze softening at her demand. "Of course, baby. As many scoops as you want."
She wrinkled her nose, still acting annoyed, but the corners of her mouth lifted in satisfaction. No one could resist her. Not her family, and certainly not Adrian. And she loved the way Adrian gave her everything without question. It was like having her own personal servant who was tall, handsome, and absolutely obsessed with her.
They pulled up to a quaint little ice cream shop nestled on a quiet street corner. It wasn't one of the high-end designer dessert bars Lily usually preferred, but she liked this place. It had a cozy charm, with pastel-colored walls and a whimsical vibe that reminded her of a fairy tale.
Adrian parked the car and immediately opened the passenger door, scooping Lily into his arms before she could protest.
"Adrian! I can walk, you know," she whined, though she made no effort to wriggle out of his grasp.
"I know," Adrian murmured, pressing his chin against her hair for a brief moment. "But I like holding you."
Lily's heart did a strange little flip at how easily he said things like that. His deep voice always had a way of making her feel small, cherished, and important. Even when she was being difficult, Adrian treated her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
The bell above the shop door jingled as Adrian carried her inside. The smell of freshly made waffle cones and sweet vanilla filled the air.
"Pick whatever you want, baby," Adrian whispered as he gently set her down on her feet.
Lily took a moment to adjust her dress before skipping over to the display case, her eyes sparkling as she examined the colorful array of flavors. She tapped the glass impatiently with her finger. "I want strawberry and... hmm, cookie dough. Oh! And sprinkles!"
The teenage cashier smiled nervously at Adrian, who stood behind Lily like an imposing shadow. "Uh, two scoops for the little miss?"
Adrian's gaze flickered to the girl, and she immediately shrank under his intense stare. "Make it three," he said, his voice low and commanding.
Lily smirked, pleased. "You're learning," she teased, glancing back at him.
Adrian gave her a rare, fond smile.
After paying, Adrian carried both their cones to a little booth in the corner, where Lily plopped down with a satisfied sigh. She immediately started licking her ice cream, small noises of delight escaping her lips.
Adrian sat across from her, resting his elbows on the table, his gaze never leaving her. He didn't care about the ice cream or the other people in the shop. All that mattered was Lily, sitting there in her cute dress, her cheeks pink from the cold treat, looking so effortlessly adorable.
Lily noticed his intense stare and gave him a playful glare. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Adrian leaned forward, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Because you're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
Lily blinked, caught off guard by the softness in his tone. For a moment, she didn't know how to respond.
"Stop saying weird things," she muttered, trying to hide the blush creeping up her cheeks as she focused intently on her ice cream.
Adrian's lips curled into a small smile. "Okay, baby. Whatever you say."
For a while, they sat in comfortable silence, the sounds of the shop bustling around them. Chatter, laughter, the hum of the ice cream machines.
Lily suddenly leaned over the table, eyes bright with mischief. "Adrian, do you think you could finish my cone?"
Adrian raised an eyebrow. "You wanted three scoops, remember?"
Lily pouted, crossing her arms. "It's too much now! My hands are cold."
Without hesitation, Adrian reached across the table and took the cone from her small hands. He gave her a look as if to say, Of course I'll take care of it. Then, without a word, he started eating her leftover ice cream, completely unfazed.
Lily giggled at the sight. It always amused her how this stoic, powerful man would do the most ridiculous things just to make her happy. "You look silly eating pink ice cream," she teased.
Adrian smirked, a rare spark of playfulness flashing in his eyes. "Only for you, baby."
Lily rested her chin on her hands, watching him with a satisfied little smile. She loved moments like these, where it was just the two of them, and she could bask in the warmth of his attention. Adrian made her feel special. Not in the way her parents or brother did, but in a way that felt deeper, more consuming.
When Adrian finished the cone, he wiped his hands with a napkin and reached across the table, brushing a smudge of ice cream from Lily's lip with his thumb. The gesture was so gentle it made her heart stutter.
"Better," he murmured, his gaze lingering on her face a second too long.
Lily fidgeted under his stare, unsure why her chest felt tight. "You're so weird, Adrian."
Adrian only smiled, his hand lingering on her cheek for a moment before pulling away. "If that's what you think, baby."
Lily crossed her arms and leaned back in her seat, pretending she wasn't affected by the way he touched her. But inside, her heart raced, and she didn't understand why.
"Come on," Adrian said after a moment, standing up and offering her his hand. "Let's get you home."
Lily slipped her small hand into his, letting him pull her to her feet. She liked the way his hand felt, large, warm, and steady, as if nothing could ever hurt her as long as he was there.
As they walked back to the car, Adrian glanced down at her, his expression unreadable but filled with something fierce and protective.
"Did you have fun, baby?" he asked softly.
Lily gave a small, satisfied nod. "Yeah. It was nice."
Adrian's heart swelled at the simplicity of her answer. To anyone else, it might have sounded like nothing. But to him, it was everything.
And as he helped her into the car and drove them back toward her family's estate, one thought stayed firmly planted in his mind:
He would do anything, absolutely anything to keep her happy like this forever.
