We're riding Aria's car down the city. The city is kind of like Las Vegas, in a way, everything is within walking distance, yet you will still see a lot of cars. Not really like New York's flashy lights and electronic billboards on buildings. The last time we tried to brave the streets with a MC (a dumb one at that, he forgot the car), we got lost and walked in five mile circles over and over until our feet almost died.
We are all reading a book except for Aria, who is blasting music from her earbuds, nodding her head. The hired driver is pretty good, yet sometimes he just looks distracted. He's been like this since the time that Aria got kidnapped under his watch. But either way, his driving is smooth enough that I'm not even lurching forward once.
We arrive at the academy, a towering structure that kind of reminds you of a catholic church, paired with old style black gates in the front, prohibiting public access. We get out, get our stuff out, and proceed to the gates, where the security guard makes us show our student IDs. After that, they make us go through some scanners. That reminds me: we carry around daggers, knives, and other things for safety. Only safety; we make sure to never shoot, stab, or hit first.
Or at least we try to. I can count many times Aria and Ruby punched someone for looking at us the wrong way. But the rest of us usually keep our cool. Usually.
Anyways, we make sure to make them out of material hidden to the scanners. We walk through them with our stuff, and even though we know very likely the scanner won't show any warning signs, we let out a little sigh of relief when we get through the security measures.
In the beginning of the year, they usually are very tight about security, but later on, it's relaxed, otherwise the plot won't be able to happen.
We walk on to the main campus, and then branch off to the girl's dorms, Ravensworth. The boys go to Elwood. I really don't know who came up with the names. Elwood is cool, but Ravensworth? The heck? We might as well just be called Ravenclaw like this. Oooh, yes, Harry Potter. I think I'm Ravenclaw according to the tests, but I was placed in Hufflepuff several times.
Speaking of that, all of us were mostly placed in Ravenclaw, but several times we got into the other houses.
Evelyn slides her ID in the door, and we enter our dorm.
"HOME SWEET HOME!" Screams Aria, just running around before planting herself face-first into the bed.
"I thought home was back, you know, in Virginia." Claire said, gently putting down her travel bags on her bed. She put her suitcase next to her bed and sat down.
"Yeah, I spend most of the year here, though. I would much rather be back in Virginia." Her words come out a bit muffled, because she's smashing her face into the bedsheets. All we can see is her short black hair spread out and her omnes pro uno, unum pro omnibus tattoo on one of her spinal bones. We all have that, along with one of our MCs who thought it was a good idea. Little did that MC know that they would leave in a few months. Such is the "cruelty" of the plot.
After unpacking, we get out of the room and follow the path back to the main campus, but suddenly a familiar looking boy comes out, wireless earbuds in his ears, his phone in his back pocket. He looks up and smiles. We look at each other, and try to figure out who he's smiling at.
He walks up to us - nobody in particular - and says, "Hey, umm, I'm new here, do you guys know where the library is?"
Ruby snorts and rolls her eyes, while the rest of us stay quiet. Ruby got it, obviously shown by the snort. "You don't look like the type to study in the library."
I honestly don't know what Ruby is thinking. This is obviously a sign of a MC, always appearing out of nowhere. Interacting like this with the MC? Well... I mean, we don't know if he is an MC, though.
His eyebrows raise, and he gives a slight smirk. He looks at me and asks, "What's your name?"
"Zoe," I answer.
"Okay. Zoe, what's her name?" He asks, pointing at Ruby.
"Ruby," Aria supplies for me. Aria actually looks like she's enjoying watching this. To be honest, I am as well. Who wouldn't?
"Rubes, princess, the thing is, I do study. You don't look like one to study." He casually looks at her with a wink, and I blink to make sure everything is playing out the way I'm seeing it.
"..." Ruby looks speechless, but at the same time, she adds on a smirk of her own. She probably took offense at the last part. I mean, all of us would.
"Well, Jasy, the thing is, I do study." Please, Ruby, I thought you could come up with a better comeback! Ruby 4ever!!!!!
"Whatever you say, princess." Okay, she officially lost.
I roll my eyes, and pull Ruby away from him.
"Let's get a proper lunch, whatcha think?" I ask the group, excluding Jason. He hangs his hands on his jeans and smirks (can he smile or is he permanently fixed to only smirking?), "I'm on. You?" He asks Ruby. I wanted to yell, "I DIDN'T INVITE YOU!!!!", but that would be just plain rude. I'm going to let Ruby handle it.
She rolls her eyes, "Only because I'm hungry." Okay, nevermind.
Well this is going to be fun.
