Town Meeting

We packed into the church.

Westborough is that kind of town that still uses their church, a white staple building with a cross on top, for these kinds of meetings. It's honestly the only place large enough for the whole town, and it's easy to speak there. The stained glass windows make for a serene landscape, and the echoes are good enough for the person speaking to not even have to raise their voice.

I somehow fit into the end of the pew, right next to Cali, who is sitting next to Lucas, who is sitting next to Gale. Alessa is in front of them, with a blond-haired boy with turquoise eyes.

It's a bit strange, because usually it would be Alessa squeezing into this row next to Cali.

Oh well, I'm not complaining.

Cali kind of looks like Teresa, from maze runner, but her eyes are much colder and tinted more toward gray, while her hair glints slightly brown and caramel in the sunlight. I spotted a copper strand, strange among the rest of her hair.

I remember before she used to talk so much, and the whole group would constantly joke that she's talking our ears off. Now she's quiet. I sort of miss it.

Okay, I admit, I do miss it.

She has three gold ring earrings, one that is in the original piercing spot, and two that travel up the side. For some reason, her hair is down, when it's usually up. And she looks different. With her hair down.

Lucas on the other hand, has soft brown hair that is sort of spiky out toward the sides, and his skin is slightly toward the tan side. Everyone loves Lucas. Almost everyone, at least. He's the one that's always smiling, the complete opposite of Cali. But she'll hunt down anyone who tries to hurt him. And he would do the same for her.

Gale and Lucas... I honestly don't really remember how they met. I think it went along something like Cali was sick once, and Gale was new, and then Gale and Lucas became best buddies.

And me?

Yeah, I'm skipping my story.

The town mayor stands, and starts talking. "I fear that we all know the tragic accident that claimed the life of our dear bus driver, friend, loved one, etc., Westley Turnith." His family sniffles a bit as if signaling where they are, so our heads slightly turn in their direction.

"The bus rolled over a... wire, it seems like, which triggered an explosive in the front of the bus. It somehow stopped, eventually, and the only casualty was Westley." Again, his family sniffles.

"This meeting was called because of that horrific accident, as we need to judge the next course of action." He finishes his part, clapping his hands together, and the twins' mom stands up, signaling that she is going to speak. The thing is that the Cliffe family is highly respected, but the Cliffe family consists of blonds, so some people conspire that Cali and Lucas actually aren't theirs.

She argues her case about the superstition, which we kids so cleverly came up with, and Mr. Cliffe joins in, arguing their case.

Everyone sits in thought, but suddenly the general air is that they're right. A few more people build on it, but basically agreeing, and the meeting comes to an end after a while, the mayor saying he will discuss with the council. But we all know how that will go.

Why did that seem so unimportant? The whole meeting basically lasted five paragraphs. Not that long.

We all pack right back out of the church, and Cali is steaming up the air with her breaths. Somehow she didn't get a jacket from home, and she's freezing. She trails behind last, as everyone packs into the sea-glass green van. I wait for her, and she's still freezing. She shakes her hands, which are pale.
