The Ancients's Town Meeting

"I had to fly here from Drewberry City, so this better be important," Jason says, crossing his arms, playing with a glass orb that he spun around in the air.

Pallel, our elder or basically the one that directs this meeting, controls it, and moderates it, raises her hand in the air, silencing Jason.

"Yes, this is important," she says.

She gestures toward us with her hand, and I speak up, stepping forward.

"First of all, Jason, shut it, this is important." Jason rolls his eyes, mummering something under his breath like he's going to miss a party or something at a friend's place. Pallel, again, raises her hand for silence, making Jason sigh.

"Continue," she says, nodding like a wise turtle. My theory is that her favorite thing to shapeshift into is a turtle.

"I just wanted to say that this is the work of droids. We were sitting in the school bus, and suddenly we heard screeching. Then the bus pushes into a tripwire. Then the front blew up, and the fire started making its way toward us, and we barely managed to stop it with our abilities. Gale tried to push the fire out the front, Cass tried to stop it with her water - "

"Enough, Harper, we've heard enough," she manages to croak out.

"We've heard enough of their testimony. No doubt there will be a town meeting beside ours. We need to decide the path of action we would like to steer them towards." She looks around, and everyone stays deep in thought, considering what to do.

Jason uncrosses his arms.

"Don't you think that we should have revealed our presence to them by now? It's a good idea, and at least we can explain this mess to them." Pallel's face grows redder by the second, and I think that Jason is pushing it a bit -

She stamps her staff repeatedly, looking at him angrily.

"Then how about you reveal it to your little girlfriend you're anxious to get back to in that city first? I'm pretty sure she would be very happy and definitely won't run away." I'm pretty sure Pallel just read his mind... Jason looks at her with fire in his eyes, well, not literal fire, but figurative fire, because if he does have the power to summon fire, we should all run for our lives at the look in his eyes.

"Please do not bring a friend of mine into this. If we can tell the council that we have powers, then maybe then can -"

"They can do what? Lock us up in the psych ward and do experiments on us? Jason Holland, you have gone TOO FAR! You can consider yourself DISMISSED from this meeting. LEAVE!" She booms into the room, the echoes bouncing off walls, and everyone draws in a sharp breath.

"I've had enough of this. You aren't my mother, Pallel." He stands up and pushes his chair in, with nobody to stop him but Alan, who tries and fails to stop his best friend.

The thing is, Pallel is his grandmother, but with his parents in the psych ward (after trying to reveal their powers) since summer, he had become Pallel's to take care of. They used to have a good relationship, all smiles, but Pallel has changed since her daughter's admittance.

She's colder, sterner, and just... not Pallel.

He leaves, his footsteps echoing on the marble floor, and Cassandra scoots closer to Alan a little, trying to comfort him by rubbing her thumb over his knuckle as he squeezes her hand.

"Pallel," Lucas's and Cali's mom says, taking a hesitant breath as other people look at her, "the boy meant well."

"Of course he did. But meaning well doesn't mean resulting well." People start to mummer, but she stamps her staff again until they become silent.

Lucas stands up, and Cali gives an approving look, whispering something, and Lucas winks at her.

Pallel likes Lucas. I mean, everyone does. He's like sunshine and rainbows to be honest, until he throws a punch. But other than that he's like the golden boy in everyone's heart.

"Pallel," he starts. Other than Jason, he's the only one that dares call her Pallel. "Maybe what Jason said was a bit... out of the bounds for you, but how about we show our council evidence that our enemy is supernatural without revealing we are supernatural?" Pallel stiffens, showing signs of thinking, and looks at everyone else.

She sighs and does the closest thing to giving in. "Vote on it," she says, waving her wrinkled hand in the air in dismissal. "Sort yourselves out while I go to the restroom." She uses her staff to hobble down to the restroom, and we all lean back a bit, thinking without her stifling presence.

I lean over to Cali beside me and whisper, "Smart making Lucas do it."

"Yeah, I'm surprised she actually listened to anyone but herself for once." Lucas leans out, and winks at me, "Shouldn't the credit be due to me?"

Everyone starts to flush a bit, well other than Cali, Alessa, and... Gale? Oh my goodness -

I press my cold fingers against my ears, and Lucas apologizes, "Oops, sorry -"

"No problem, it's fine," I say, looking away. Other people are holding tissues to their noses to stop bleeding, glaring at Lucas, and I can feel his mood dampen along with his influence.

Alessa stands up, clapping for attention, and makes everyone close their eyes as she takes the vote. Two more people do the same thing, making sure the vote is correct, and Pallel stumbles back into the room with her staff.

"So? How did it go?"

Alessa stood up, and Pallel turns her stare into her. "It was voted to reveal that our enemy is supernatural."

Pallel sighs grumpily. "Well, it's not like I can change the vote. Figure out among you Royals how to do it. This meeting's over." Everyone starts to stand up and disperse onto the streets and go different directions, but before we can fully leave, Pallel puts her hand on Alan's shoulder.

"Run after Jason, will you? He should still be in town somewhere since his flight back isn't until tomorrow." Alan nods and says something inaudible to her, and she nods gruffly and walks away.

Alan puts his hands in his pockets, and Cass pats his shoulder.

"Well I guess we have to figure out this mess," Gale says, half-smiling and half-grimacing.

Apparently we do.
