'You've become awfully close to that cell mate of yours, now haven't you.' That, was not what Haru thought he'd hear from King. That was not normal. 'What, he f*ck you better then me? Is that it? Or are you just a desperate whore I always knew you were?' He sneered. Smile still plastered on his face but his words laced with nothing but malice. Haru stopped breathing. He was terrified. Not for himself, no, for Kane. In that moment he found himself praying Kane had already left, had got out a free far away from Kings clutches.
'Well baby boy? SPEAK UP!!' The slap across his face had so much force it sent him flying to the floor. Still he said nothing. 'What? Did I not give you enough. Is that it? You ungrateful BITCH.' He bellowed from above Haru. 'But thats ok,' he continued, fishing an object from his pocket. With a shine that caught Haru's eyes in terror 'you've been real useful to me so far baby boy. But every tool gets blunt eventually. And you just ran out of use for me.' King gripped Haru's hair with one hand, violently yanking his head up right to face him. He bellowed out a laugh, at the sight of Haru's wide petrified eyes and trembling form. Bringing the tip of the knife up to his neck.
'Consider this a parting gift. The gift of death.'
Haru didn't think it would end this quickly, didn't think he would be this scared. He'd always thought of death, he was prepared for it. In the moment, with the knife digging into the skin on his neck, and Kings putrid face a breath away. His only regret that passed his thoughts was that the last face he'd see wouldn't be Kanes.
What a shame.
Just as Haru closed his eyes, accepted his fate, grateful even that it would be over quick with a knife. The knife was gone from his neck. The grip from his hair ripped away and the weight of King taken with it. Opening his eyes, everything was so confusingly moving so fast. Micheal, the only other man in the prison larger and more powerful than King, had been the one to rip the man off Haru. More inmates swarmed the room, some even armed. Haru quickly recognised them as not being part of Kings men.
Then there was the one person Haru so desperate wanted to see and never see again at the same time. Kane. The man rushed into the room during the tense moment of silence while Micheal and King squared off each other. Haru didn't even hear was they where saying, too focused and shocked about the man before him.
'Come one mate, we gotta get out of here.' Kane said, grabbing Harus hand to pull him to his feet ready to run. But Haru didn't move.
Finally snapping out his daze 'what are you doing here!?' He demanded. 'You shouldn't be here, you should have left!!'
'You really think I'd leave you here? Now hurry up we have to go!' Kane tried again to take Haru along but Haru ripped his hand free from his grip.
'No no no no NO! I can't leave, you were supposed to have left already! I'll never be safe out there, he'll find me and I'll die anyway. Im done. Kane I'm tired of this and im done. The last thing I wanted to do was bring Kane down with me but I was always destined to die. And you were supposed to be free, and take him down out there. THAT was the plan. THAT is whats supposed to happen!! So you need to leave.' Haru's voice trembled, with anger and pain. Madness had began all around them. Micheal was winning the fight with King, Kings men were out numbered and surrounded by all the inmates who opposed their behaviour or were wronged by them. Yet amongst it all Haru stood before Kane, ready to die.
'You are coming with me. You'll be protected, I'll keep you safe, you don't have to die here. Not today.' Kane desperately pleaded. Sounding strong but feeling so scared inside. The fact Haru was ready to die, was going to die, only moments ago. He didn't know how to even process it.
'Why does it fucking matter!? Why are you trying so hard, I don't fucking matter!' by now Haru was reduced to tears.
'Because I bloody well care about you! OK! I care so fucking much about you and you are coming with me.' With determination, and the advantage of Haru's stunned moment, Kane firmly took his hand.
This time, Haru didn't protest.
