Cassian stood at the front of the clearing, his presence commanding the attention of every member of the pack. The moon hung high above, casting a silvery glow on the assembled werewolves, but it was Cassian's powerful demeanour that truly illuminated the night. He was a natural leader, his broad shoulders squared and his dark hair tousled by the evening breeze. As he spoke, his voice resonated with authority, each word infused with the passion and responsibility he felt for his pack.

From her vantage point at the edge of the gathering, Lyra felt her heart race. It had been just a few weeks since she had been drawn into Cassian's world, pulled in by an inexplicable bond that had sparked the moment they first met. That night in the woods, captivated by laughter and the warm glow of the fire, she had been entranced by Cassian—a fierce protector amidst his people. When he approached her, curiosity danced in his dark eyes, and she had felt the unmistakable pull of their connection, a primal instinct whispering that he was meant for her.

But Cassian had taken his time revealing this truth, wanting her to acclimate slowly to a life so foreign to her.  Nights were filled with shared stories beneath the stars, laughter mingling with the whispers of the wind. He made her feel welcomed, accepted, allowing her to see the depth of his character, the strength that came from being an alpha. He had been patient, easing her into the reality of his life, eventually explaining his role as the leader of the pack, the weight of responsibility that rested on his shoulders.

Yet beneath this serene surface, tension simmered, thickening the air. Whispers of dissent had begun to circulate, particularly from Stan, a member who often questioned Cassian's leadership and the absence of a Luna to guide them. Cassian managed these challenges with a grace that impressed Lyra, his voice firm yet calm, but she could see the strain in his eyes as he addressed the pack. The absence of a Luna loomed like an unspoken spectre over them, an undeniable pressure that permeated the gathering.

Lyra could sense the intensity of Cassian's feelings, the unyielding pull of their bond, and it both thrilled and terrified her. She was painfully aware of the murmurs surrounding their relationship, that the absence of a Luna had become a point of contention within the pack. It was on one of those starry nights, sitting close together by the fire, that Cassian finally revealed the truth that had been simmering beneath the surface.

"Lyra," he had said, his voice low and serious, the flickering flames casting shadows across his chiseled features. "There's something I need to tell you. I didn't want to rush this, but I can't keep it from you any longer."

Her heart had pounded in her chest, anticipation and dread colliding.

He took her hands in his, a heavy sigh escaping his lips as he lifted his gaze to meet hers. She had never seen him so vulnerable, so uncertain. "You're my mate," he said, his voice steady yet filled with an intensity that held her captive. "I felt it the moment we met, but I wanted you to understand my world before I placed that weight upon you. You deserve the chance to comprehend what it truly means to be bound to an alpha."

The words hung in the air, heavy with meaning. At first, she was struck speechless, the weight of the revelation sinking in. In that moment, everything shifted; the connection between them felt more profound, a truth that tied them together in ways she had only begun to comprehend. Yet, with the revelation came an avalanche of emotions—fear, excitement, and a fierce desire for independence.
