KASHI'S POV

"Good morning."

I gave a slight nod to the staff walking past in the hallway. "Ma'am, sir is in a meeting," Akshat said, stepping in my way. Ignoring him, I changed direction, heading straight for the meeting room.

"Ma'am, please. Sir is busy," Akshat's voice trembled with fear, which I knew all too well was because of him-my husband.

"I'm busy too, Akshat," I said sharply, without turning to look at him. "I left my son at home to be here. So, you'd better let me take care of what I came for."

I drew in a deep breath as I reached the door, my fingers gripping the cold metal handle. For a moment, I hesitated. Then, with a push, I swung the door open.

"So, the stats-"

Everyone in the room turned to look at me, and the person speaking fell silent.

The man at the head of the table stopped mid-sentence as every pair of eyes in the room turned toward me. Silence fell, thick and heavy. My gaze swept across the long table, taking in the executives seated there. My eyes finally locked on the forest ones.

"Mr. Agnihotri, I need to speak with you," I said in a calm tone. Everyone glanced at each other, while he kept his gaze locked on mine.

"We'll continue this later," he said, his business-like tone cutting through the tension. At his command, the executives hurriedly gathered their papers and filed out of the room, leaving just the two of us.

He stayed seated behind his desk, his fingers absently rolling a pen between them. I could see the restraint in the way his shoulders tensed, the way his jaw clenched ever so slightly. He was holding back, controlling the urge to lash out. I knew how much he hated being interrupted, especially during important meetings like this.

"What brings you here, Kashi?" His voice was calm, but the coldness in his eyes stung. He never called me "sweetheart" anymore but sometimes he did that I can't even remember.

"I want to know where you were," I demanded.

He seemed to understand exactly what I meant. Standing up, he buttoned his coat. "I was away. With work." I stepped closer, leaving barely an inch between us.

I stepped closer, closing the gap between us until there was barely any space left. "Elaborate on that," I said, my voice low as I tilted my head to meet his gaze directly. His eyes wandered over my face.

"Why do you need to know?"

I gave a bitter laugh. 'Because I realized you're not going to try to fix things between us. If I don't do something, we'll stay like this forever-distant and broken.'
