After the incident in the Driftwood Throne room, Princess Rhaenyra and her children are escorted back to their chambers to be inspected by the maester.

Rhaenyra instructs the maester to take care of her children before herself. The man first checks Jace's head since the boy had dried blood coming from his scalp but it was just a surface wound.

Then the maester checks Laenys, looking at the long gash on the girl's face, "The bleeding has stopped but I'm afraid this will need stitches. I can give her some milk of the poppy to help elevate the pain."

He opens up a bag he had brought and pours a bit of milk of the poppy into a goblet, handing it to the young girl. She drinks it and the man gets to work.

Her mother stands behind her the whole time trying to comfort her as the man stitches up the wound while her brothers watch her. It takes him nearly twenty minutes to finish, "It will scar unfortunately but make sure to keep it clean to prevent further damage."

When he finishes cleaning the excess blood from Laenys' face, he walks toward Luce and tells the boy to tilt his head back.

"His nose is definitely broken so I will need to reset it," he informs their mother which causes Luce to whine knowing it will hurt.

Jace holds his brother's hand as the maester snaps his nose back into place and stuffs small pieces of a torn cloth up it to prevent it from bleeding again.

Lastly the maester checks on their mother. They all knew that she would likely need stitches as the wound was quite deep. He offers her milk of the poppy, but she declines it, so he begins stitching the wound while all of her children watch, sorrowfully.

Just as the maester is finishing up, their grandmother and grandsire, Lord Corlys, enter the room.

"Is everyone all right?" their grandmother asks coming to stand by Rhaenyra, placing her hand on her shoulder.

"The worst of it was the wound on the young princess face, but she should be fine," the maester informs her. Turning his attention back to the princess, "Luckily Valyrian steel cuts clean so you will heal, but you will have a scar."

"Thank you, maester," Rhaenyra says to dismiss him.

As the maester leaves, Lord Corlys speaks up, "Have any of you seen Laenor? No one has seen him since the funeral."

"Laenys said he never came out to the courtyard," says Rhaenyra, "I assumed he had come back here, but he hasn't been here at all."

The three adults look at each other, clearly concerned.

Their grandsire looks at the three children, "How about you lot go find your cousins? They would surely enjoy the company."

Rhaenyra nods, "Yes, that sounds like a good idea, but Laenys needs to stay here. She had some milk of the poppy. I'm surprised she hasn't fallen asleep yet."

"But mother-," Jace attempts to protest but is cut off by his sister, "It's okay. Tell Baela and Rhaena we can all play later."

The boy nods, grabbing his younger brother to lead him out of the room but their mother adds, "Please stay out of trouble, you've already found enough for today."

After the two boys leave the room, Laenys goes to her mother's bed and lays down. She can vaguely hear her grandparents and mother speaking but not loud enough that she can understand them.

The young girl tries to keep her eyes open, but the effects of the milk of the poppy finally begin to win and she drifts off into a dreamless sleep.

It's past midday when Laenys is woken up. She feels someone shaking her and calling her name. She tries to ignore them but whoever it is, is very persistent.
