The next evening, the tension that had simmered beneath the surface finally boiled over. Anastasia returned home after another night out with her friends, her heart lighter but her mind buzzing with the day's conversations. She had enjoyed herself, but the earlier confrontation with Elijah weighed heavily on her mind.
As she stepped into the apartment, she sensed something was off. The air felt charged, and Elijah was pacing back and forth in the living room, his jaw set in a hard line.
"Where the hell have you been?" he snapped, his voice sharp enough to cut through the silence.
"Out! With my friends, Elijah!" she shot back, her annoyance bubbling to the surface. "It was just dinner. You knew I was going."
"Just dinner?" he echoed, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You think it's okay to just run off while I'm sitting here, wondering what you're doing? You didn't even bother to check in."
"Oh, give me a break! I'm not a fucking child!" Anastasia exploded, feeling the anger surge through her. "I'm tired of your bullshit! You act like I owe you my every minute. I went out, and I had a good time. You should try it sometime!"
Elijah took a menacing step toward her, his fists clenched at his sides. "You think this is funny? You think you can just ignore me while you're off partying? What kind of girlfriend does that?"
"Not a controlling one! You're so insecure it's pathetic!" she yelled back, her cheeks flushed with fury. "I love you, but this possessive crap is suffocating! You act like I'm going to leave you or something. It's driving me insane!"
"Maybe you should think about why I feel this way!" he countered, his voice rising. "You've changed since you started going out with them. You're acting like you don't need me anymore!"
"Because I don't need to be trapped here with you!" Anastasia shouted, her frustration boiling over. "You're acting like you own me! I'm a person, not a possession!"
Elijah's expression darkened, the anger in his eyes morphing into something more volatile. "You really want to see how far this goes? You think you can just walk in here and talk to me like that?"
"Yeah? What are you going to do about it? Hit me?" She spat, her voice laced with venom. "You're not as tough as you think, Elijah. You need to get a grip."
His body tensed as he stepped closer, fists tightening. For a moment, Anastasia feared he might actually strike her, but he stopped himself, visibly wrestling with his anger. The tension was palpable, the air thick with their unresolved emotions.
"Don't test me," he warned, his voice low and dangerous.
"Test you? You're the one who's losing control!" she shot back, refusing to back down. "You need to understand that I won't be intimidated by you!"
Before she could react, Elijah closed the distance between them, grabbing her wrist in a grip that was both possessive and controlling. He pulled her closer, crashing his lips against hers in a fierce, forceful kiss. She gasped in surprise, her anger momentarily melting into shock.
"Stop!" she cried against his mouth, but he deepened the kiss, as if trying to claim her, to mark her as his.
"You're mine," he growled against her lips, the intensity of his gaze making her heart race. "You don't get to run off and act like this doesn't matter."
Anastasia struggled against him, the fire in her anger igniting anew. "Don't you dare treat me like I'm some trophy to be claimed! I'm not yours to control!"
He pulled back slightly, his grip on her wrist firm but not painful, his eyes searching hers. "But you are mine. And you know it. I can't lose you to them. I won't."
