Introduction:
The chapter starts with Kai preparing for his first real social outing in a long time, a hangout planned by Miyu. This is a significant step for Kai, who has always kept his distance from others due to his heart condition and the anxiety surrounding it.
Page 1-3: Getting Ready
The chapter opens in Kai’s room. He’s standing in front of a mirror, fixing his shirt awkwardly. His room is simple and neat, with the soft morning light filtering through the window. Kai glances at the clock, realizing it’s almost time to leave.
Kai (internal monologue):
“I can't believe I'm actually doing this... going out. It's been a while since I left the house for something other than school. But... Miyu seemed so excited. I guess it’s better than staying in my room all day.”Kai grabs his jacket, taking one last look at his heart device under his shirt, hidden but always a reminder of his fragile condition. He takes a deep breath, trying to shake off the anxiety.
Kai (internal monologue):
“I’ll just get through the day. One step at a time.”Kai:
"Mom, I'm leaving!"Mother:
"Okay honey, take care!"Page 4-6: Meeting at the Park
Kai arrives at the park where he’s supposed to meet Miyu and Haruka. The park is lively, with families and groups of friends walking around, enjoying the sunny weekend. Kai feels out of place among the cheerful atmosphere, but then he spots Miyu and Haruka waving at him from a distance.
Haruka (energetic, waving):
"Kai! Over here!"Kai walks over, feeling slightly nervous but trying to hide it. Haruka is her usual bubbly self, while Miyu greets him with a warm smile.
Miyu (smiling softly):
"Glad you could make it."Haruka immediately starts talking about their plans for the day, but Miyu’s eyes linger on Kai for a moment. She seems happy that he showed up and is quietly observing him, curious to see if he’ll open up a little more today.
Page 7-9: Arcade Fun
Their first stop is the arcade. The vibrant, flashing lights and noisy machines are a stark contrast to the quiet world Kai is used to. Haruka, full of energy, drags them to various games, competing with Miyu in a claw machine and challenging Kai to play a racing game.
At first, Kai is hesitant, unsure of how to enjoy himself in such a loud and lively environment. But after a few rounds, Miyu and Haruka’s enthusiasm starts to pull him in. Kai wins a game of air hockey, surprising both girls.
Haruka (laughing):
"Hey! You're better at this than I thought!"Kai shrugs, a faint smile on his face, though he tries to hide it.
Miyu (noticing):
“There it is... he can smile, after all.”Miyu watches Kai closely, noticing the small, rare moments when he lets his guard down. She starts to wonder what else is hidden behind his reserved, gloomy exterior.
Page 10-12: Lunch Break
After the arcade, the group takes a break at a small café nearby. They sit at an outdoor table, sipping cold drinks and chatting about the games they played. Haruka, as always, dominates the conversation with her lively stories, but Miyu is focused on Kai, trying to engage him more.
Miyu (gently):
"So, Kai... what's something you like to do? You know, when you're not at school."Kai hesitates, not used to being asked about his personal interests.
Kai (shrugging):
"I don’t really do much... just read, I guess."Miyu smiles, encouraging him to talk more.
Miyu:
"Reading, huh? What kind of books do you like?"Kai thinks for a moment, feeling a bit uncomfortable under her curious gaze.
Kai:
"I don’t know... fiction mostly. Stuff that’s... far from reality."Miyu chuckles softly, sensing that there's more to Kai’s answer than he’s letting on. She leans in slightly, her tone playful but sincere.
Miyu:
"Far from reality? Sounds like you like to escape a bit."Kai glances at her, a little surprised by how easily she’s read him. He doesn’t reply, but Miyu takes it as a small step forward.
Page 13-15: Walk in the Park
After lunch, they head back to the park for a more relaxed part of the day. Haruka runs ahead, chasing after some kids playing with a ball, leaving Kai and Miyu to walk alone.
The park is quieter now, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the path. As they walk side by side, Miyu looks up at Kai, feeling like this is her chance to get a little closer to him.
Miyu (thinking):
“He’s always so guarded... I wonder if he even realizes how much he shuts people out. But there’s something sweet about him... I just know it.”They walk in silence for a while, but Miyu decides to take a small risk.
Miyu (softly):
"Hey, Kai... I’ve been thinking. You don’t have to be so... tough all the time, you know?"Kai looks at her, confused.
Kai:
"What do you mean?"Miyu meets his gaze, her eyes gentle but direct.
Miyu:
"I mean, you don’t always have to hide what you’re feeling. It’s okay to let people in sometimes."Kai stops walking for a moment, her words hitting closer to home than he expected. He looks away, unsure of how to respond.
Page 16-18: Unspoken Moments
The scene shifts to a quieter part of the park, where they find a bench and sit down. Haruka is still off in the distance, giving them a rare moment of peace. The air is calm, and for a moment, neither of them speaks.
Miyu doesn’t press further, sensing that Kai isn’t ready to open up completely. But the silence between them is comfortable, not awkward, and that’s enough for now.
Kai glances at her, feeling something he hasn’t felt in a long time—a sense of calm, like maybe he doesn’t have to carry everything by himself.
Chapter End (To Be Continued in Chapter 8)
---
This chapter sets the stage for deeper emotional exploration in the next part. Miyu’s quiet attempts to get closer to Kai hint at the emotional layers he’s still hiding, while Haruka’s lively presence keeps the atmosphere light. The day’s activities serve as a backdrop to the subtle development of Kai and Miyu’s relationship, as Miyu begins to break through Kai’s walls and discover the softer side of him he’s been hiding.
