I saw Mitsuri was about to be hit... I didn't think twice... I just threw myself in front of the attack to die in her place. "No... she can't die again, at least she must stay alive... Rengoku, I won't break the promise again, I will protect Mitsuri with my life..." The attack came and pierced through my chest; I spat blood, and Mitsuri's attack followed right after, cutting Muzan's left arm. With another push he made, everyone except Tanjiro was thrown far away by the attack. When I was thrown to the side, I saw Obanai, desperate beside me, with his hand outstretched. I think he planned to pull me out of the way... but I guess it didn't work...
-"Shinobu!" I heard a scream, Mitsuri. Everything felt like it was in slow motion as I looked at her face.
-"Iguro-san! Help in the fight! I'll take care of her!" Mitsuri leaped, grabbed me while still in the air, and protected me from the attack against the wall. Obanai went to help in the fight while Mitsuri pulled bandages from her pouch, trying to save me...
-"Shinobu, no! Why did you throw yourself in front?! Why?" She said, desperately applying the bandages to my stomach, but it wouldn't help; it was a huge wound...
-"Because... if I didn't... you would have died..." I replied calmly even in this state.
-"But I didn't want this! I didn't want it! No..." Mitsuri was still trying to do something, but only got her hands dirty, making a futile effort.
-"Mitsuri... stop..."
-"No, no, no!" I slowly raised my hand and held one of her arms. The tears on her face were now evident.
-"It's okay... don't cry... we're almost winning against Muzan... this is something to celebrate..."
-"You did so much to save me... and you're just going to die so I can continue... even if you're not... with me..." She stuttered, not seeming to think clearly because of her desperation.
-"I... made a promise... I will do it all over again... if I had to make these decisions for you not to die... I regret nothing." I smiled while spitting blood. I never planned to have a long life... just a happy one with her. "...Well, I'm happy now, right?" I laughed even while bleeding.
-"Shinobu... I can't do this without you..." She cried, her tears falling on me.
-"Mitsuri, please, don't die early... I want you to be very happy, okay?... Do this for me."
-"But... I want to stay with you..."
-"And you will... but I want that to be in your natural time... no matter how long it takes, how many years it takes... we will see each other again, I promise..." Even while crying, she nodded, promising what I had said.
-"I... I... don't want to lose you, Shinobu..."
-"You won't..." I struggled to sit up. Soon I will die, I'm sure of it... but I needed to do this... I sat facing Mitsuri.
-"I... promise I will be waiting for you... so there's no need to rush." I gave a little laugh and then kissed Mitsuri, my last kiss on her. When I stopped... I had died; my eyes no longer sparkled, and my gaze was fixed on Mitsuri. My heartbeat stopped... the pain was gone... everything was quiet now.
