One Year Married

On a sunny morning... always a sunny morning... which is nice, I'm not complaining, and I'm not bored, before you ask. My life has never been better, I would say! I have an amazing wife, demons are no longer a problem, I have peace at home, and time to do studies and experiments... I just feel that today, for some reason, it's a bit... dull... not in a boring way! This whole moment was just me reflecting on today, why did it feel so empty? It feels like a holiday that you forget to celebrate. I found myself on the roof of the butterfly mansion, with the sun hitting my face, so I had my eyes closed, along with a light and pleasant breeze for a morning, but still an internal anger!!

-"Shinobu-chan! The food is ready."

-"Okay, I'm coming," I said, jumping off the roof and only opening my eyes when I hit the ground. This day really feels empty, hmm... I continued to think about what would happen today as I walked to the kitchen, where there she was, Mitsuri Kanroji, aka my wife... practically everyone who matters already knows that, so... moving on. I went to the small table in the center where we eat, and I sat on my knees. Shortly after, Mitsuri came in with a plate in hand, placing it in the center of the table, on top of which was grilled fish. My love turned around and went to get two more bowls, handing one of them to me, which contained rice; this was the first part of our lunch.

-"Thank you for the food," I said with my usual smile, and Mitsuri smiled back.

-"You're welcome." She then grabbed her bowl with a heap of rice, as always. We both started eating in silence; there wasn't much to discuss at the moment. When we finished the rice, Mitsuri tried to bring up a topic.

-"Um, you know the girls. Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho, they sent us a letter. They said they're enjoying the trip." She picked up a piece of grilled fish while speaking and took a big bite.

-"I see, I'm glad. They've practically never left the butterfly mansion, so I think traveling a bit is doing them good." After all, they are already sixteen, right? They had to go out at some point, I thought, looking to the side with a satisfied expression. I grabbed a piece of fish too and started eating with Mitsuri.

-"Do you have anything in mind to do today?" I said just before taking a bite of the fish.

-"I was thinking of going out, maybe to the blacksmith village... it's gotten quite a bit bigger since the last time we went, and it would be nice to celebrate our marriage," After chewing on the fish for a bit, I looked at Mitsuri with a confused expression.

-"Celebrate our marriage..." and in the middle of my question, the reason I felt something was missing today finally came to me... Today is the day Mitsuri and I got married... how did I forget that? I'm sure I even wrote it down in my diary... The guilt of forgetting weighs on my shoulders, and my soul feels like it's leaving my mouth; usually, it's Mitsuri who forgets things.

-"Yeah, I think it would be nice, to replicate our first date, right?" I said, trying to hide my nervousness for forgetting. Mitsuri looked up and gazed at me with sparkling eyes.

-"Oh! Yes! We could replicate our first date! That would be really cool!" She said excitedly, finishing her grilled fish quickly because now she needed to think about what to do today... on our first date, we didn't go to many places; we arrived at the blacksmith village, went to the hot springs, ate at a restaurant, and kissed on the way back; that was practically it...

-"We could take the opportunity to go to other places as well..." Mitsuri said, turning to me with a smile.

-"Besides that, how about we wear our old uniforms? It's been a while since we wore them."

-"The uniforms..." my memories of the uniform were more bad than good; I know many beautiful moments I experienced were with it, but there's a lot of demon and human blood on it, and I don't really like that...
