RWBY: Vermintide

Chapter Eight - The Pestilence

After rescuing Ren and Nora, Team RWBY began following the trail that would lead them to Jaune and Pyrrha. Heeding Ren's warnings, Team RWBY covered their mouths and noses with pieces of cloth from their clothes as to avoid the stench from Lord Skrolk and the Plague Monks. 

Ruby: Once we find where those Rats took Jaune and Pyrrha, we'll need to move quickly. 

Weiss: If what Ren said about those particular Rats are true, then we need to keep ourselves covered. 

Blake: Let's just hope we're not too late. 

Yang: I'm itching to punch a few rats!

As Team RWBY raced to where Jaune and Pyrrha were being held, Lord Skrolk and his Plague Monks prepared Jaune and Pyrrha for the sacrifice. The two were still weak by their exposure to the fumes of the Skaven of Clan Pestilens. Lord Skrolk walks over to the barely conscious Jaune and Pyrrha. 

Lord Skrolk: Consider this an honor-privilege, No-Furs. You will know the touch-touch of Pestilens! The Great Horned Rat smiles-smiles on you who are about to die-perish!

Jaune and Pyrrha could do nothing but watch helplessly as Lord Skrolk prepares his Liber Bubonicus. As reads from the Liber Bubonicus, the Plague Monks slowly approach Jaune and Pyrrha with vials of a strange substance. It was in that moment that Team RWBY made their move. As Team RWBY attacked Lord Skrolk and the Plague Monks, they were able to force them away from Jaune and Pyrrha, getting a good look at Lord Skrolk. 

Yang: It's official. You're officially the ugliest rat I have ever seen!

Lord Skrolk: Your attack on me-me is blasphemy! I will see you suffer-suffer for in the Great Horned Rat's name!

Lord Skrolk pointed his Rod of Corruption at Team RWBY, the Plague Monks prepared their Plague Censers, filling the room with smoke. 

Weiss: Don't get hit by those weapons!

Yang: Wasn't planning on it! 

 With that, Team RWBY took the fight to Lord Skrolk and his Plague Monks. During the initial fight, Ruby tries to get to Jaune and Pyrrha, but Lord Skrolk attacks her. 

Lord Skrolk: That's as far as you go-go, No-Fur!

Ruby: I'm not letting you hurt my friends!

Lord Skrolk: It must be gifted the touch-touch of Pestilens! It is the will-will of the Great Horned Rat!

Lord Skrolk began attacking Ruby with the Rod of Corruption. Ruby narrowly dodges the Plague Lord's attack. Meanwhile, Weiss forms several hard light Glyphs. Yang then uses the Glyphs as jumping points. Yang then charges up her Burn Semblance and lands a powerful blast from Ember Celica on two Plague Monks, blasting them back. Blake and Yang launch their Bumblebee team attack with Yang latching on to one end of Blake's Gambol Shroud. Blake then swings Yang to create momentum for Yang's punch whilst firing Ember Celica, stunning a Plague Monk. Blake then lands several strikes on the Plague Monk, taking the Plague Monk down. It soon came down to Lord Skrolk. 

Ruby: It's over! 

Lord Skrolk: Do you think you can win-succeed here, No-Furs?! Ha! You will know the touch-touch of the plagues! So says-speaks the Great Horned Rat! Clan Pestilens supreme, yes-yes!

Lord Skrolk then attacked Team RWBY with the Rod of Corruption. Despite having the numbers on the Skaven Plague Lord, the team of Huntresses were on the backfoot as they took great care to avoid the Plague Lord's strikes. As the fight dragged on, Ruby could see that Jaune and Pyrrha were getting worse due to their continued exposure of the fumes from the Plague Monks. 

Ruby: We need to get Jaune and Nora out of here now!

Weiss: That is going to be difficult! 

Yang: We need to deal with this butt ugly naked mole rat! 

Realizing that they needed to break off the fight so that Jaune and Pyrrha could be helped, Ruby grips Crescent Rose and goes for an overhead strike. As Lord Skrolk was about to land a strike on Ruby, Ruby uses her Petal Burst Semblance to speed past Lord Skrolk. As Lord Skrolk was distracted, the rest of Team RWBY rushed to Jaune and Pyrrha and began moving them to safety. 

Ruby: HEY! OVER HERE, YOU BIG UGLY RAT!

Lord Skrolk turns to face Ruby. To the Plague Lord's shock, he saw Ruby holding the Liber Bubonicus. This infuriated Lord Skrolk as Ruby tightly gripped the Liber Bubonicus. 

Lord Skrolk: I will have-take your hands for this, No-Fur!

Ruby: You want your book? Come get it!

Ruby smirks as she throws the Liber Bubonicus into the air. She then smacks it with Crescent Rose like a baseball, launching the Liber Bubonicus into the air. Before Lord Skrolk could lash out at Ruby, Ruby uses her Petal Burst to speed past Lord Skrolk, escaping. Lord Skrolk chose to rush after and reclaim the Liber Bubonicus. Meanwhile, Ruby regrouped with the rest of Team RWBY as they got Jaune and Pyrrha to safety. As they got away from the noxious and putrid fumes of the Skaven of Clan Pestilens, Jaune and Pyrrha were slowly recovering. 

Jaune: Ow....my head.....

Ruby: Take it easy. You're safe. 

Pyrrha: Where....where are Ren and Nora? 

Weiss: They're safe. We managed to free them from the Ratmen who captured you. They're waiting for us at the belltower within the financial district. 

With that, Team RWBY took Jaune and Pyrrha out of the sewers before the Skaven of both Clan Moulder and Clan Pestilens could converge on them. In that moment, Team JNPR had been saved. But their struggle against the Skaven would only continue.
