Vardaan Singh Rajput
After Reva pulled her stunt in the kitchen, I could tell she was extremely flustered by my indulging response. I was so happy that she felt comfortable enough to initiate something like that. But I didn’t want to get too excited, I was still very patient and kept my expectations low. We’d move on her pace.Once we finished cooking, the family was assembled at the dining table. We served the dishes along with some other food the house helps made for breakfast. As everyone settled, Reva and I began serving around the table and lastly, sat at our seats next to each other and served each other.
We gazed around at everyone waiting on their remarks. I saw Reva’s hand fidgeting again, I took her hand below the table and her head snapped towards me, she was wide – eyed. Hilarious. I shook my head and indicated for her to focus on the others. She did. Daadusa was the first to say, “Lajavab khana banaya hai, aur yeh rasgulle? Bahut hi achhe hai, roz naa banana padd jaye Revika bete,” Reva shied at the praise and I just smiled at her red face.
Raunak was next to speak up, “Bhaisa ke khane ka toh nahi pata par Re Bhabhisa ke hathon me jaadu hai, I want to kiss those hands of yours,” he said as he got up from his chair and attempted to stride towards my wife. I was quick to stand in his way, I pinned him with a glare which made him raise his hands in surrender, “Thik hai bhaisa nahi jata aapki biwi ke paas, ese toh mat dekhiye,” he said and awkwardly chuckled and the room was filled with laughs, only then did I realize that I was still holding my wife’s hand and that now that was on full display.
Reva quickly pulled her hand and looked down and everyone ‘wooh’ ed at that. She got up and murmured, “Woh juice lena baaki hai mein leke aayi,” and rushed towards the kitchen. I cleared my throat and followed her. I heard chuckles and teases as I left, but I didn’t give them a reaction. As soon as I walked in, I saw Reva fanning herself with her pallu. She must’ve noticed my presence as she turned around. “Kya zarurat thi aapko mera haath pakadne ki sab ke samne, aapko toh koi kuch kehta nahi sab mujhe hi chidhayenge, this is going to be the topic of atleast the next 5 conversations I’ll have with anyone.”
She finished and crossed her arms and looked at me with her angry gaze. Still the cutest look of hers. “Mein toh sirf aapko comfort karne ki koshish kar raha tha, Reva, is that so wrong for a husband to do, hmm?” I asked, sarcasm dripping from my voice. She audibly huffed and picked the juice on the counter top. She whiffed past me to the door as she commented, “You’re impossible to win from.” With that she was outside.
I followed suit. We had our breakfast with random talks and topics and after, Reva and I were given a few gifts for our Pehli rasoi. She was hesitant to accept at first as some were jewelry pieces, but Maa convinced her. Just as we were heading to the drawing room, we saw Anamika come in.
Revika Shastri
Anamika came to visit me, she obviously wanted to properly talk to me about everything that went down, how I fell in love and got married in a day. I couldn’t tell her the truth; it was just too risky. We talked with everyone for a while and then Maa asked us to spend sometime by ourselves, so we headed to my bedroom.
As soon as the door was shut behind us, I heard Anamika, “Tell me everything, right this instance, you traitor!! I thought we were friends Re.” She was pissed, I knew that. “Okay, look I’m sorry, okay? It all happened so fast, he came one night telling me he loved me and wanted to marry me, I didn’t even get to process before I rejected him. Then he thought it was a great idea to marry Lavanya – or atleast pretend to – so that I would realize my eternal love for him, and I did, so all in all, all’s well that ends well?” I asked with my brows raised and an awkward smile.
She huffed, standing before me with her hands crossed. Two seconds later she freed her hands and sat on the bed. “You know? I’m not even angry about it, you guys seem so happy. I just would’ve have loved it if you told me everything, but I get it, everything was too fast for you to process and then talking to someone about it was not the best thing for you.” She said understanding me. I loved that she always put herself in my shoes and tried to understand.
Then she shrugged, she patted next to her and I sat down in a second. “I got something for you, I think you’ll like it.” She said as she pulled out a box from her handbag. I uncovered the neatly knotted white silk ribbon on the black box, only to discover a white night gown, not very revealing but revealing enough. It was silk. Thin straps, neck deep enough to show the right amount of cleavage, length would be up to my mid thighs – barely – and the slight cut on the thigh, it was beautiful, perfect even.
“This is beautiful, but you know I don’t like revealing clothes and I’m not even wearing this in a club,” I laughed. She stared at me like I was the biggest idiot and shook her head. “Ese Maasi banayegi mujhe tu? It is for my dearest friend, Vardaan, tum dono ke liye gift hua na yeh toh!” her revelation dawned on me like a ton of bricks. She couldn’t possibly be suggesting I wear this for him. I mean we are still working through this emotional shit and this? I mean for her this is loving marriage so I can’t blame her. I need to keep up my act.
I thank her and tell her that I will make good use of it. We talk for a while more, and she has so many questions about how we fell in love, what happened, how we got married, she wasn’t present at the wedding as she had to be at her family’s place back at her hometown. Her grandmother was hospitalized and I didn’t blame her, she was missing Vardaan and Lavanya’s wedding not mine and his.
After Anamika leaves, the entire family is seated and the entire day is spent together. Later, in the evening, my husband claims he has to go see Mr. Randhawa; he says he’ll be late. I retreat to our room looking to change the saree. As much as I love the way a saree enhances a woman’s beauty, it is also very hard to handle. As soon as I enter the room, I see the black gift box laying on the bed. I decide to try it after a shower, Vardaan ji said he was going to be late anyway, I’m just going to try it and then change up and get ready for bed, I told myself.
I took a nice warm shower to wash off all the tiredness of the day. I felt refreshed right after. I walked out of the bathroom and picked the box to the closet. I changed into the dress and then stood before the mirror in our room. I admired how the dress was a perfect fit, I gazed at myself at leisure. From my well flaunted collarbones to my moisturized legs, the dress showed it all off perfectly. I was truly impressed with Anamika. I was in too much of a trance when I heard the door open, I turned to see my husband standing there in all his glory, looking tempting as ever with his messy hair.
I didn’t notice I was still wearing the dress and he gulped. He quickly got back to his senses and faced away, his neck and cheeks red. I snapped out of it myself and noticed why he was flustered. I cleared my throat. His head instantly snapped towards me and with wide eyes he said, “Uh um, you look great?” He was so nervous, I almost laughed. “Puchh rahein hai ke bata rahein hai? I asked amused. “Bata raha hu,” he said and cleared his throat.
“Tareef karoge kab tak, bolo kab tak? Mere seene me saans rahegi jab tak..”________________________
