Despite his 'welcome' back to Earth the past few weeks, the pair of you didn't speak much. Though, you did here and there it always ended up awkward and one or the other just leaving. He resided in Bulma's care for now. You didn't know if he was staying or going and you definitely weren't ready to even think of having him stay with you, especially after the stunt he pulled. You down at Bulma's place for the day, just a girls hangout thing, like you used to. You were sat in the front room with her as she was getting some clothes in which you helped her pick what to keep and donate, it was just a common back and fourth until the sound of hearing someone clear their throat from the doorway. Bulma turned her head, seeing Vegeta leaning against the doorway. You knew it was him by the sound and didn't bother looking over. Bulma stood up and walked towards the doorway, nodding to him as she went to go make something for you and her to eat. Leaving you and Vegeta alone.
You hear him sigh in some sort of frustration, specifically with himself. Thinking of how to start this off. It's not like he hadn't pre planned this conversation. "Can we talk?"
You heard his voice, your back to him as you were sat on the ground on your knees going through some of her clothes still. You stopped and sighed to yourself. A few long seconds of silence causing the air in the room to thicken rapidly. "Yeah, what is it?" You only turned your head to him. Looking over at him, not in his armour for once but a plan black tank with blue sweats.
He pushed himself off the doorframe and walked further into the room. Your head turned back to going through her clothes, multitasking. He took note of this and mentally took a deep breath, he wasn't cowardly, in his words anyways. But, he found it difficult to talk to you head on, so to his surprised you turning away from him made it easier for him to say what he wanted to say.
"I'm sorry."
Your hands stopped after a second from hearing his words. Sorry? He wasn't the type to say sorry. You hesitantly but eventually turned to him, "What?" You raised a brow, not believing what you heard.
He let out a short 'tsk' and frowned, he knew you heard him, and he knew what you were doing. "I said I'm sorry."
Your eyes met his before looking away, you were mad at him, furious even still. But you couldn't help but turn away and smile to yourself, you found it slightly amusing that you managed to get him to apologise. "I don't think I understand." You turned back to him, evidently finding it funny.
"I'm being serious." He frowned harder and his arms crossed. He wasn't amused that you found it humorous. "I should have told you at least that I was going. Truth is that I didn't want to hear you try and convince me to stay because I knew I couldn't bear to go after seeing your reaction so I just left without saying anything instead." He scoffed looking away, you could see a hint of embarrassment. This was certainly out of character in your eyes, you connected the dots that Bulma must of had a conversation with him beforehand and convinced him to finally speak to you.
Your amused expression softened to a flatter one, realising that he was being completely genuine, or at least trying to. It made more sense now, but it still doesn't excuse the fact he literally just ditched you like that, even if you wouldn't have went with him. "You know I wouldn't have tried to convince you. I wouldn't make you do something you wouldn't." You spoke after some silence, your tone soft but serious. Sure you wouldn't have been happy but you weren't one to tie people down out of their will.
He let out another 'tsk' and shook his head, "It's not the point." There was another few seconds of silence, per usual these days. "I plan on staying around for a little while longer." He quickly let out. "I have unfinished business with Kakarot." You weren't surprised by this. He isn't due to arrive on Earth for at least another year from now. So you had some time.
"Great." You didn't really know what to say considering how awkward your conversations have been as of recent. "So you're staying." It wasn't really a question, it was you just letting yourself know. Your head turning back to going through some of Bulma's piles of clothes.
"Yeah." He looked back at you as turned away. He was expecting you to be in a mood and giving him the cold shoulder but apparently not. "You're not mad? Going to get onto me again?"
You shrugged, your back still to him, "What for? I wanted you to stay." You spoke without bother.
He didn't expect you to say that so fluidly but he nodded to himself as he figured out mentally what to say. "Right... yeah." His eyes darted around the room to think on what to say.
"Also I forgive you." You sighed. "I'll be honest, I'm still mad but there's no point of keeping it up so, I'm willing to go past it."
He nodded to himself again taking this in. He didn't feel like he was deserving of your forgiveness but as of right now, you were the only one who really made him stop and think on what to say. "So we're good." He didn't ask but instead just confirmed himself.
"Yeah. We're good." You turned your head to him. Finishing up a pile of clothes and standing up, now fully turning your body to him.
The room fell silent again as you both just looked at each other.
"You know I don't hate you." You said flatly, looking up at him, your arms crossed.
"I know." He scoffed, glancing at you and then down at his crossing arms. "I just wanted to know if we're still..." He tried to figure out the word.
"Friends?" You raised your brow. The pair of you knew deep down it was a bit more or at least a little more complex than that but it felt like friends was the only way to go off from this point.
He bit his tongue for a moment, "Yeah. Friends." It sounded almost foreign coming from his mouth. Friends wasn't the word he was thinking of, if he could be completely honest it disappointed him, but it was a safe start. You both started in a hopeless place and now was a chance to start over.
You nodded, just looking up at him, sighing as you pulled him in for a hug. He was startled by this, his arms raising as you hugged him, your head against his chest. His eyes were widened by your sudden movement, not knowing what to do or how to touch you. He slowly rested his arms around you as he glared around the room to ponder on what to say, but naturally he rested his chin on your head, eyes still glancing around.
"I missed you, you idiot." You mumbled against him.
He finally cracked a bit of a smile to himself as he let out a 'hmpf'.
"I know."
The evening continued with you and Bulma spending time together as Vegeta left you two alone to go train by himself. Bulma updated you on what he's been getting up to while he was here. You were getting ready to head back home, Bulma fell asleep on the couch as you got up and grabbed your jacket and shoved it on, walking past the kitchen to leave. As you did you saw Vegeta standing there with a glass which you assumed to be water. He raised a hand to basically wave bye. You nodded and returned the raised hand as you continued to walk to the door.
Once you opened it to leave, you heard a soft sigh from behind you.
"I forgot to ask." You turned, hearing Vegeta. Your eyes meeting his as you stood close to one another. Finally continuing, "I might need a sparring partner, those stupid robots are getting repetitive." He referred to Gravity Chamber.
You took it as a sparring invite. "Yeah, sure. I'd be okay with that." You nodded, also finally a good chance to actually begin to train again with another. You've been training alone since you got back from Namek.
"Good. Be here for 3 tomorrow afternoon." He then took a finger and flicked your jacket collar, "And nice jacket." He grunted before turning and walking away. You just stood at the door and nodded to yourself. Shoving your shoes on and closing the door behind you. Jumping and flying back home.
As you flew home you felt a small warmth down in your stomach again. A feeling you haven't felt in a good while. Hope? You weren't too sure. But you were willing to give another chance, whether it was just friends or more.
Romantically or platonically,
You loved him.
