We had been to several Hogwarts feasts, but never one quite like this.  Everybody was in their pajamas, and the celebrations lasted all night.  The highlight of the evening was when Ava came rushing in and literally tackled me out of my seat in a hug, before kissing me on the cheek and helping me up, her face bright red.  Hermione came running over moments later, cheering about how we'd solved it.  Hagrid turned up at half past three, clapping Harry, Ron, and I so hard on the shoulders that we were knocked into our plates.  And of course, Harry, Ron, and I's six hundred points securing Gryffindor the House Cup by a land slide for the second year running.  To top it off, Professor McGonagall stood up to tell us all that the exams had been cancelled as a school treat.

Hermione: Oh no!

Ava: Oh, thank god!

Dumbledore announced that, unfortunately, Professor Lockhart would be unable to return next year, owing to the fact that he needed to go away and get his memory back.  Quite a few of the teachers joined in the cheering that greeted this news.

YN: What a pity.

Ron: Shame.  He was starting to grow on me.

The rest of the summer term passed in a haze of blazing sunshine.  Hogwarts was back to normal, with only a few small differences.  Defense Against the Dark Arts classes were cancelled, but we've had plenty of practice at that anyway, as Ron told a disappointed Hermione, and Lucius Malfoy had been sacked as a school governor.  Harry had realized that he was the one who gave Ginny Tom Riddle's diary, just before I had knocked him out in Diagon Alley.  Harry had also tricked him into freeing his house elf, Dobby, who then proceeded to throw him down a flight of stairs.  I wish I could've seen that.  Draco was no longer strutting around the school as though he owned the place.  On the contrary, he looked resentful and sulky.  On the other hand, Ginny Weasley was perfectly happy again, which I was glad to see.  Too soon, it was time for the journey home on the Hogwarts Express.  Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred, George, Ginny, Luna, Ava, and I got a compartment to ourselves.  We made the most of the last few hours in which we were allowed to do magic before the holidays.  We played Exploding Snap, set off the very last of Fred and George's Filibuster Fireworks, and practiced disarming each other by magic.  Harry was getting very good at it.  We were almost at King's Cross when Harry remembered something.

Harry: Ginny, what did you see Percy doing that he didn't want you to tell anyone?

Ginny started giggling.

Ginny: Oh, that.  Well, Percy's got a girlfriend.

Fred dropped a stack of books on George's head.

Fred / George: WHAT?

Ginny: It's that Ravenclaw Prefect, Penelope Clearwater.  That's who he was writing to all last summer.  He's been meeting her all over the school in secret.  I walked in on them kissing in an empty classroom one day.  He was so upset when she was... you know, attacked.  You won't tease him, will you?

Fred: Wouldn't dream of it.

He was looking as if his birthday had come early.  George was snickering.

George: Definitely not.

YN: I know who my first letter's going to this summer.

The Hogwarts Express slowed and finally stopped.

Harry: Ron, I told your dad how to use a telephone last summer, he'll know.  Call me at the Dursleys, okay?  I can't stand another two months with only Dudley to talk to.

Hermione: Your aunt and uncle will be proud, though, won't they?  When they hear what you did this year?

We got off the train and joined the crowd thronging towards the enchanted barrier.  Harry looked like she had just asked him what one plus one equaled.

Harry: Proud?  Are you mad?  All those times I could've died, and I didn't manage it?  They'll be furious...

We all laughed, and together we walked back through the gateway to the Muggle world.
