I  had never been part of a stranger group.  Crookshanks led the way down the stairs.  Uncle Remus, Pettigrew, and Ron went next.  Next came Professor Snape, whom had been suspended in midair to be carried back to the castle, drifting creepily along, his toes hitting each stair as they descended, held up by his own wand, which was being pointed at him by Sirius.  Harry, Hermione, Ava, and I brought up the rear.  Getting back into the tunnel was difficult.  My uncle, Pettigrew, and Ron had to turn sideways to manage it, as Uncle Remus and Ron had chained themselves to Pettigrew to prevent his escape.  I could see them edging awkwardly along the tunnel in single file.  Crookshanks was still in the lead.  Harry went right after Sirius, who was still making Snape drift along ahead of them.  Snape kept bumping his head on the low ceiling.  Avan and I were giggling with each thunk of his head.  I had the impression Sirius was making no effort to prevent this.  Crookshanks darted out of the tunnel first, and he had evidently pressed his paw to the knot on the trunk, because Uncle Remus, Pettigrew, and Ron clambered upward without any sound of savaging branches.  Sirius saw Snape up through the hole, then stood back for us to pass.  At last, all of us were out.  The grounds were very dark now.  The only light came from the distant windows of the castle.  Without a word, we set off.  Pettigrew was still wheezing and occasionally whimpering.

Lupin: One wrong move, Peter.

His wand was still pointed sideways at Pettigrew's chest.  Silently we tramped through the grounds, the castle lights growing slowly larger.  Snape was still drifting weirdly ahead of Sirius, his chin bumping on his chest.  And then... a cloud shifted.  There were suddenly dim shadows on the ground.  We were bathed in moonlight.  Snape collided with Uncle Remus, Pettigrew, and Ron, who had stopped abruptly.  Sirius froze.  He flung out one arm to make us stop.  I could see Uncle Remus' silhouette.  He had gone rigid. Then his limbs began to shake.  My eyes widened and I pushed my friends behind me.

YN: He didn't take his potion tonight!  He's not safe.  You three, get back to the castle.  Go, now!

But none of them moved.  Ron was chained to Pettigrew and my uncle.  Harry leapt forward but Sirius caught him around the chest and threw him back.

Sirius: Leave it to me.  RUN!

I rushed forward, grabbing the chains and bringing my hand down, shattering them.

YN: Ron, go!

Ron: What about you?

YN: I can handle this.  Go, now!

He nodded, running.  Then I realized.  Pettigrew was gone.

YN: Sirius!  Peter's gone.  I'll take care of Uncle Remus.  You go help my friends.

Sirius: But you-

YN: He can't hurt me.  I'll be fine.

Sirius reluctantly ran after them.  I turned back to my uncle, who no longer looked human.  He was seven feet tall, covered in shaggy hair, and his face had elongated into a snout.

YN: Uncle Remus, this isn't you.  Please, don't make me hurt you.

He snarled, baring his teeth at me.  I sighed, raising my hands into a fighting stance.

YN: God, I hope being a werewolf makes you tougher.

He lunged at me, going straight for a bite.  I sidestepped and brought my fist up into his jaw.  The werewolf whimpered, stumbling backwards.  He lunged at me again, and I thrust my hand out.

YN: Blue!

The familiar blue glow lit up the grounds, as Uncle Remus was lifted into the air.  I swiped my hand, and he was carried towards the Whomping Willow.  I walked along side as Uncle Remus snarled and reached for me from the air, but it was useless.  I walked straight into the tunnel, and hovered him over the bed of the Shrieking Shack.
