"Stay with me," I whispered as I unbuckled Mila from her seatbelt and gently but quickly scooped her into my arms. With one swift motion I opened the car door and bolted into the sidewalk.

The hospital was fifteen minutes away. I could make it faster.

I could feel her blood soaking through my shirt as I ran, each step echoing with the dread that by the time we get to the hospital it will be too late. The cold air night bit at my lungs and my muscles burned with every frantic stride but I didn't dare to slow down.

"Move!" I shouted at the people on the sidewalk who were in my path, my voice raw and desperate. People jumped out of my way, eyes wide with shock while all I could think about was Mila's cold, unmoving body in my arms.

"Kai?" I hear her whisper weakly, I almost didn't hear her.

"I'm here, angel. Stay awake for me, yeah? Please." I said desperately. She briefly nodded against my shoulder.

My kept my eyes fixed on the bright red Emergency sign that looked larger with every stride. That's all I could see, it was like a beacon driving me through my panic. Mila's breaths were shallow against my chest, making my fear only grow. "You're going to be okay." I kept repeating, more to reassure myself than her. "You're not leaving me, angel. I've only just got you."

As I rounded the final corner, the hospital came into full view. My legs burned, treating to give out at any moment but I pushed towards with a surge of adrenaline, crossing the last few yards as if the ground itself was falling beneath me.

Bursting through the entrance, I staggered into the emergency room, shouting for help at the nurses. "She's been shot! Somebody help her!" The nurses and doctors sprang into action, rushing over with a gurney. A pair of hands reached for Mila and for a brief second I couldn't let go. It felt like if I released her now, I was surrending to her fate.

"Sir, we need to take care of her now," a nurse said firmly. Finally coming to my senses I laid Mila down on the gurney, her pale body slipping away from my grasp as the medical staff wheeled her away toward the trauma room. I followed them down the corridor, only to be stopped at the double doors leading into surgery,

"Sir, you can't go any further," a doctor said, blocking my path. "We'll do everything we can but you need to wait here."

I run a hand through my hair, helplessness crawling under my skin. "She needs to make it,"my voice broke "She has to."

The doctor gave me an empathetic smile, placing a hand on my shoulder. "We'll do our best."

As the door swung shut, I found myself standing alone in the hallway, staring at the empty space where Mila has been moments before.

I slid down the wall, sanking into the floor with my head in my hands, feeling every second stretch into an eternity as the minutes ticked by without any news.

I couldn't stop my mind from replaying the events over and over again. From the moment she collapsed stop the ground, covered in blood to the feeling of her limp body in my arms as I sprinted through the city. I've never been this terrified in my life. There had been close calls before, but this was different. This was Mila's life at stake and I was powerless to do anything except wait.

If only my father didn't left for Italy. Nothing would have happened to her, but Lonzo just had to send us to this stupid gala.

Pocketing my phone out of my pocket, I dialed Romeo and waited for him to respond. I needed someone here, someone who understood what Mila meant to me even if I didn't admitted out loud yet.

The phone rand once..twice then Rome's voice crackled on the other end. "Kai? Is everything alright?" His voice was tired, probably dealing with his own problems and trying to reach out to Gianna.

"It's Mila." My voice was barely strained with contained panic. "She's in surgery. She was shot during am attack at the gala my father told us to go to." The words felt heavy as they left my mouth.

"What?! How the fuck did this happen?" I could feel the jingle of his keys in the background, probably ready to drive over.

"Vendetta showed up." I explained, my voice lased with anger." They crashed the event. It was chaos and as we fought them off one of those bastards shot her in the stomach." My grip tightened on my phone. "I didn't even realize she was hurt until we were outside, I had to run to the hospital because of traffic."

Romeo's voice softened, though his concern was still clear. "Is she going to be okay?"

"I don't know," I admitted, my voice dropping to a whisper. "She just got into surgery. I'm just waiting."

"Okay. Relax. I'm going to deal with the police because I'm sure they'll want to intervine then I'm coming over, okay? Just hang in there, okay?"

I ended the call and sank into one of the chairs by the operating room. My body felt heavy, exhaustion taking over now that the adrenaline had finally ebbed away. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees and clasping my hands together, trying to steady the tremor in my fingers.

They're going to pay for this. I don't care how many of people I'm going to have to kill, they're all going to pay.
