As you were pushed back into the room, you sank onto the edge of the bed, tears quickly forming in your eyes. "What happened?" Rafe sighed. You stay quiet "You know you have to talk to me eventually, right?" "No i don't! Do I really need to remind you of everything you've done?" You glared at him, anger boiling over.
"I did everything to protect my father. So don't start," he shouted back. "Did you forget when you killed Peterkin? What you put Sarah through?" You exhaled sharply.
"First of all, you weren't even there when all that shit happened," he argued, then paused, his tone softening. "But I'll admit... what I did to Sarah—what I tried to do—was wrong." A tear slipped down his cheek, and he quickly wiped it away. "So um- you don't have to remind me."
Rafe swallowed hard, trying to compose himself. "Look, I know I'm the bad guy, and I get that you may not trust me right now. But I'm your best bet, y/n. I have a boat that can get us off the island, but we need to work together to get out of here."
You remained silent, walking to the window as the sounds of guards echoed outside. Rafe followed, asking what was happening.
"They're going after your sister" you told him. "Sucks for them," he shrugged his shoulders. "Good for us, though," he added."Seriously, Rafe? That's my cousin they're after, and your sister for God's sake! You don't even care!"
"y/n, this could be our only shot at freedom. We don't have time to argue." he shot back.
As much as you hated to admit it, he was right. You knew the pogues and you knew that they would probably find a way to get out of this mess—they always did. So, you and Rafe devised a plan, knowing your best chance is using the distraction of the guards.
You began to fake an argument, shouting as Rafe slammed his hand against the wall. Then silence, making the guard think something was wrong.
The door unlocked. Phase two was underway. As the guard stepped inside, Rafe quickly slammed the door, pinning his hand and making him drop his weapon. You sprang up to grab the gun while Rafe tackled the guard to the floor and taking his phone before tying him up.
"Big mistake," the guard hissed. "You'll regret this."
"Come on Rafe, let's go," you urged, locking the door behind you. "Rafe, give me the phone," you demanded.
"Why?"
"Just do it."
"Fine, but you give me the gun first," he replied. You exchanged items and you started snapping photos of anything you thought was relevant as you moved through the house.
Then once you guys were outside, you spotted a truck pulling away from the mansion. "I've got an idea. Follow me." You dashed after it, leaping into the back as it slowed.
You did it—you were free.
Once you reached a guarded area, you and Rafe hid under a tarp, holding your breath in anticipation. When you heard "all clear," a smile spread across your face. You were finally on your way back to your friends.
"I'm headed to my boat," Rafe said. "I can drop you off wherever you want, somewhere safe. But one thing—only you- not your friends, not my sister" You knew Rafe would say something like that. "I just want to get off this island," you replied, determination in your voice.
"Smart move," Rafe nodded. But you had a plan—you weren't leaving without your friends.
"You know, I've always liked you, Y/N," he said, his tone sounding genuine."You barely know me, Rafe," you replied, taken under surprise by Rafes comment. "The last time I came to the outer banks was years ago."
"I know," he said, a hint of a smile on his lips. "I've always admired you, even if you're a Pogue."
His words left you unsettled and you felt uncomfortable, you fell silent after, unsure of how to respond.
