The sun peeked through the blinds, casting a soft golden glow across the hospital room.Deepika sat beside Alan, her eyes filled with concern and a mixture of hope.
She had spent the last hour explaining everything to him—what had happened, the events that led him here, the near-death experience, and the ongoing battle for his life.
Deepika: This is what actually happened, Alan. Do you remember any of it?
Alan, sitting up slightly in bed, stared at her, his face clouded with confusion.
Alan: No... I... I don’t know... it feels like what you’re saying really did happen, but I can’t remember it. I just... I don’t know.
His voice trembled with uncertainty, a feeling of disconnect from the story she had just recounted.
It was as if the events belonged to someone else, some distant version of himself he couldn’t grasp.
Deepika: Okay, Alan. Relax. It’s okay if you don’t remember everything.
She reached out, placing her hand gently on his, offering a small squeeze of reassurance.
Alan: Thanks... but I can’t kick this feeling off. It’s like something is lingering, like I’m missing a huge piece of myself. I don’t even know who I am anymore...
Deepika looked at him, her heart aching. She knew the weight of everything he had been through.
She could see how lost he was in the fragments of his memory.
The boy in front of her was struggling to piece his identity back together, and she wanted nothing more than to help him—no, to save him.
A thought passed through her mind. A daring, impulsive idea. She leaned toward him suddenly, her breath hitching. Her eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, the tension in the room thickened.
Deepika (whispering): Do you want to kick it off? Together?
Alan blinked, taken aback by her sudden closeness.
Alan: What do you—?
Before he could finish, she moved closer, her hands sliding up behind his neck. She pulled him gently toward her, her fingers tracing the back of his head, now sitting firmly on his lap. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she could feel his rapid breathing, his confusion growing.
Alan: Deepika—
She didn’t let him finish, placing her forehead against his, her warm breath brushing across his neck. Her eyes slowly fluttered closed as she leaned in further, lips just inches from his. The world outside seemed to vanish, leaving only the soft sound of their breathing filling the air.
Just as she was about to kiss him, a sudden knock shattered the moment.
Deepika: Uh—
She pulled back abruptly, her face flushing with embarrassment.
