The next morning, Dhruv entered the room, his footsteps light but purposeful.“Shree, wake up,” he called, his voice calm yet commanding. Shree, however, remained nestled in her blankets, unmoved.
“Shree, utho na. Don’t you have college today?” Dhruv’s tone shifted slightly, carrying a hint of impatience as he approached the bed.
( Shree wake up )
“Just five more minutes,” Shree mumbled, her voice thick with sleep, as she pulled the blanket further over her head, cocooning herself.
“Tum yahi baat pichle aadhe ghante se bol rahi ho,” Dhruv remarked, his brow furrowing with mild exasperation.
( You’ve been saying that for the past thirty minutes )
“Are bas last 5 minutes,” she insisted, her voice muffled under the covers.
( Just last 5 minutes )
Dhruv stood by the bed, his expression firm. “No way, Shree. You’re getting up right now, warna me tumhare upar pani dal dunga,” he warned, his tone unyielding. Shree, still half-asleep, ignored his threat.
( You’re getting up right now, or I swear I’ll pour water on you )
Without hesitation, Dhruv swiftly yanked the blanket from her face and, true to his word, sprinkled cool water onto her. The droplets shocked her awake.
“What are you doing?” Shree exclaimed, sitting up abruptly, her hands wiping the water from her face, her annoyance clearly visible.
“Jo mene kaha tha,” Dhruv replied, turning his back to her as he began to leave the room. “Now hurry up and get ready, phele ham tumhare ghar jaenge then college .”
( Exactly what I said I would do )
( Now hurry up and get ready. First, we’ll go to your place, and then to college )
Shree grumbled under her breath, “Aatmayen kab se itna bolne lagi?” Her frustration evident in every word, yet she begrudgingly began to prepare herself for the day ahead.
( When did ghosts start talking so much )
After hurriedly slipping into the same clothes she had worn the day before, Shree made her way to the living room. There, she found Dhruv in the kitchen, his back to her, busy preparing breakfast.
“At least I don’t have to cook now,” she muttered with a note of relief, her mood lightening slightly at the sight of someone else handling the kitchen.
Walking over to the kitchen, she leaned against the counter, watching him. “What are you making?”
“Sandwiches,” Dhruv replied without looking up from his task.
Shree’s eyes lit up, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. “Does this mean you’ll cook for us every day?”
Dhruv glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “No,” he stated flatly.
