"Why are we doing this again?"

Asriel's voice is exasperated, with a tinge of worry in it behind them. Chara grins at him, and despite not even looking at the monster, they know he's rolling his eyes at their joy. They both know each other too well, after all.

They do respond to him a minute afterwards, once they're on firmer land away from the small shifting asteroid belt. Well, the whole place is an asteroid belt, but there's a few smaller asteroid belts within in places magic is particularly strong and confusing. Chara can't really tell precisely, but they do feel a slight pull towards the right despite the main belt going forward.

Shaking it off, they turn on their heel with a wider grin, hands clasped behind their head as they walk backwards. As expected, Asriel rolls his eyes at them again, a long-suffering sigh leaving him. Chara sticks their tongue out at the goat.

"Cus it's fun! No need to be so stiff, Azzy! Even you have to admit the main roads are boring. "

Asriel winces but doesn't deny them. His shoulders slump.

"I miss when you used to stare for hours at everything around the main roads. Now you're dragging me to places like this! We're not even supposed to be here! This is dangerous!"

Despite his complaints, Asriel always goes along with their wims, so Chara pays him no mind. Asriel points to their right despondently, and Chara obediently walks towards it. There's a drop to their left where they were just walking.

They continue like this for a while, Asriel's complaints and attempts at convincing them to go back slowly shifting to casual observations, gossip, and silly things he witnessed when they were separated.

(Not that it happens often nowadays. They're usually glued at the hip.)

They eventually reach their destination, Chara showing it off with a flourish and a 'behold!' as Asriel gaps at the sight.

This side faces the planets further from earth, flakes and fragments of crystals reflecting the distant light of the sun, the ones beyond its reach glowing with a light of their own. Chara has no idea which planet they came from, but they don't really care all that much. Asriel, for once, doesn't protest as they grab his hand and guide him to sit at the edge, only a few feet away from the barrier that would spell their doom if they went beyond it.

They don't let go.

"... Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea."

Their grin shifts into a smirk at the admission.

"Oh?"

They proceed to tease their brother for the next hour till he's red-faced and just about to abandon them and go back on his own, shoulders shaking in laughter.

(... They miss those days.)
