Sans huffs out a laugh as Papyrus fumbles around with his date. He hadn't meant to follow them, really, but it's not his fault he took up a gig at this dinner last week because he got bored of his office job, and it just so happened to be the dinner Papyrus's date chose.

(Most people would probably prefer the stable office job, but Sans has never been willing to stick around for jobs like that. He just decides to take one up once in a while when he can and it suits him, but he really doesn't like sticking around for them.

Too much drama with coworkers, especially with speciests being more prominent in them.)

He shakes his skull, grin widening. A part of him is still reluctant to leave him be, still reminded of past times and nightmares, but he doesn't want Papyrus to distance himself from him.

He can make his own decisions. Sans doesn't have to make them for him.

Not anymore.

("Sans? Are We... Really Brothers?"

Sans blinks up at his younger brother, browbone raised in confusion. Of all the things he expected to hear, this was not one of them. He sits up from where he was lying on the couch, fully facing Papyrus.

It still shocks him a bit every time how tall he's gotten. He's barely a teen, but Sans still has to crane his neck to look at his face when they're both standing.

"Course we are. Why are you asking? Finally entering your rebellious phase?"

Papyrus pouts at the tease, making Sans's grin widen slightly. He waits patiently for the younger skeleton to respond, Papyrus avoiding his gaze and fidgeting with his hands.

"I Don't Know, I Just... You Say We Had A Father, But..." Papyrus reluctantly meets his eyelights, gauging his expression. "You Were The First."

Sans's bonebrow rises again, confused, ignoring the slight sting to his SOUL and ache against his skull at the mention of their father. "The first?"

Papyrus flushes slightly, avoiding his gaze.

"The First Thing I Remember. I Don't Remember Our Father, But I Remember You. Why Is That?"

Silence, for a few seconds.

"... Did you think I was your father?"

Papyrus flushes further, shoulders shrinking.

"I Know You Aren't, You're Way Too Young For That! Don't You Dare Laugh!"

Sans doesn't. He just gives him an easy grin, throws in a few jokes and some teasing as a distraction from how that little fact affected him. Affection, shock, maybe a little guilt and some other things-

He doesn't know. He's always been shitty at dealing with his own emotions.)
